Crochet Teapot Handle Cozy

Learn how to make your own teapot handle cozy or potholder with this easy tutorial! This potholder is basically a rectangle with two pockets for your thumb and fingers to use to prevent burning. Fully lined and embroidered with some cute detailing, it’s simple to make and makes a super cute housewarming gift!

You'll need:

• 1 skein of any color yarn (DK weight yarn)
• US Size H (5mm) crochet hook
• 1 yard coordinating cotton fabric
• Extra yarn scraps for embroidering
• Matching sewing thread and sewing machine

With your crochet hook and the skein of yarn, chain 16.

Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and each stitch across, chain 1, turn.

Row 2: Single crochet in 2nd single crochet from hook and each single crochet across, chain 1, turn.

Rows 3-56: Repeat Row 2.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Embroider your design if desired on the body of the cozy, using yarn scraps for extra texture.

Trace your crochet rectangle onto your cotton fabric. Iron and hem the edges 1/4 to 1/2 inch (this will make your lining smaller than the crochet rectangle). Mine was a little smaller than I anticipated, but it still worked.

Pin the lining and the potholder wrong sides together, centering the lining over the potholder body evenly. Stitch around the edges over the hem stitches. Fold the two ends to the middle, right sides together, and stitch in place.

Trim all thread ends, flip inside out and you’re finished! Flop it over your teapot to look cute until you use it next, or use it to take that fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies out of the oven.

I love that you can really get creative with this project. Use whatever scraps of fabric you like, crochet some extra flowers for appliques, etc. Have fun!
