Lately I have been really into pouch necklaces and things of that sort. Just saying the word "pouch" makes me happy. It's a cool word, don't judge me. (•_•) But the first one I made was not really intended to be a little pouch but that's just what it grow into. A cute little pouch!!!

Supplies :
* 41 inches of cording
*glue (fabric glue works the best)
*embroidery floss (multiple colors)
* size D 3.25 mm crochet hook
*scissors
* tapestry needle

Optional:
*really thin wire
*beads and small charms
* small stones, coins, marbles and other small trinkets

Cut the Cord

As you can see in the first picture the necklace's closer is the loop the cord forms with the pouch inserted through. Let's call the loop the pouch is on, the pouch loop and the loop keeping the necklace on, the close loop. The first pouch I made does not tighten when the cord is pulled, because the ends of the cord makes up the rim of the pouch. But in the second necklace the pouch is able to be closed. To achieve that the ends of the cord will now become the close loop. So with the 41 inch cord overlap the two ends about 2 inches. Glue them together and wrap with embroidery floss starting and ending little after each side.I found some really thin wire to wrap, adding some extra support. It's so old I don't remember the brand or the gage.

Crochet the Pouch

Ok, now fold the cord in half so now your at the other loop, the pouch loop. Take your crochet hook and the color of your choice and single crochet 22 stitches on the cord. Here you can leave the tail yarn to add beads and charms later. I purposely left 4 inches on each side so I can add beads and have enough left over to tie it with. Now you will turn your work and with another color (or not I don't tell you how to live your life) and crochet the next row. Continue until you have 10 rows counting the row on the cord.

Haha Bottom

So now that's done set that a side and work on the bottom.(hehe bottom) The bottom of the pouch is a circle worked in rounds. This is the way I like to start my circles in crochet. I could never get the "magic circle" and I think this is kinda like that... but not really. Create a slip knot and place it on your hook. Leave about 2 inches of tail to form a loop. Now take your crochet hook and insert it in the loop and yarn over. Pull the through the tail loop and yarn over again and pull through both loops. Yay! You now have completed one single crochet! I'm so proud of you! Now do 6 more in the loop for a total of 7 and pull. Do NOT join. In the next round do 2 single crochets in each stitch. Now there should be 14 stich in the round. So the next round sc in the next stitch, then 2 single crochets in the next. Repeat this step until you have 20 stitches in the round and bind off.

Because of my awesome crochet skills I have managed to finish with 20 stitches instead of 22. By "awesome crochet skills" I mean mediocre at best. Because of this I had to alter the the bottom circle. Basically what you want to do is create a circle with the same number of stitches as the last row of the pouch.

OK now fold the pouch so that the wrong sides are facing each other, and tie the dangly bits together matching the colors. Thread a some floss on a tapestry needle and sew the bottom circle to the pouch. This is where having the right number of stitches matters. Only thread through the stitches when sewwing or it might look kinda bad. Almost done, now either add beads to the dangly bits or thread them back in and cut them off. So now this is the time where you put the necklace on and proudly show it off to your friends. Yay!!!
