The pattern is made by making a simple crochet circle with Popcorn stitch edging. These would also make great gifts for any occasion. For making crochet coasters, Cotton yarn is always the best option.

Size:- 6 Inches - Can be customized into Crochet Tablemat or Placemat

Notes:-

For this whole Pattern, the Starting Chain 2 is not counted as a stitch. It is Just to bring the yarn to a working height. Start the next stitch in the same stitch.

Round 1:-

Start with a Magic Circle.

12 Double Crochets in the circle.

Pull the yarn end to close the gap.

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

12 Stitches.

Round 2:-

Chain 2.

2 Double Crochets in each stitch around.

Slip stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

24 stitches.

Round 3:-

Chain 2. 1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC, 2DC).

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

36 Stitches.

Round 4:-

Chain 2. 

1 Double Crochet each in 2 stitches.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC*2, 2DC)

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

48 Stitches.

Round 5:-

Chain 2. 

1 Double Crochet each in 3 stitches.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC*3 2DC)

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

Change color while making the slip stich.

60 Stitches.


If you wish to turn the coaster into a tablemat or placemat, then follow the below mentioned increase pattern:-

Start each round with Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)

Round 4--DC 2, 2DC in next stitch(48) 

Round 5--DC 3, 2DC in next stitch(60)

Round 6--DC 4, 2DC in next stitch(72)

Round 7--DC 5, 2DC in next stitch(84)

Round 8--DC 6, 2DC in next stitch(96)

 .....and so on.

Border:-

Chain 2.

1 Popcorn Stitch.

Chain 2.

Skip 1 Stitch.

Repeat(1 Popcorn Stitch, Ch 2, Skip 1)

Slip stitch on top of the first Popcorn stitch and weave off.

To make a Pop Corn stitch:-

  1. Make 5 double crochet stitches in the same stitch.
  2. Drop the loop from your hook.
  3. Insert your hook in the first double crochet you made.
  4. Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
  5. Chain 1.
  6. That's one Popcorn stitch made.
