Crochet Lips (and what to do with them)

Have you ever had an idea that took on a life of its own? Looking for something to enter into the "Footwear" contest Instructables had recently, I came up with a pair of crocheted Lips slippers. The slipper part was awful (hence, no entry) but the lips were great (in a funny-both humorous and in a weird way).

Now what on God's green earth are you going to do with a pair of crochet Lips?

Read on my friends and be stupefied.......

Materials

Materials:

Yarn of your choice. (for this 'ible' I used what I had on hand).

Crochet hook of choice. I'm using a 'K', or 6.5mm for this project, more for the sake of speed. A smaller hook will make a tighter stitch.

Row marker (a paper clip or bobby pin will work)

Yarn needle

Polyfil (or stuffing of your choice)

Crochet a Basic Bowl

(For pictures, please see "Easy Crochet Pumpkin" as the first part is the same)

With the yarn, start by chaining 3. Slip stitch the ends together to form a small circle. Do 10 single crochet (SC) through the center of the hole. This creates your base. Inert your row marker to help you keep track.

Row 1: Do 2 SC in each stitch in the row.

Row 2: Do 1 SC in the first stitch, then 2 SC in the next. Repeat this pattern for the remainder of the row. (keep moving your row marker)

Row 3: in the first 2 stitches, do 1 SC. In the 3rd stitch do 2 SC. Repeat for the rest of the row.

Rows 4-11: SC in each stitch. This builds up the sides of your bowl. Tie off but leave at least 24" of tail. You'll use this to create the shape of your lips

Form and Stuff Your Lips

Push in the center of the bowl until it reaches the top edge of the bowl. Fold in half. Can you see the mouth? Thread the yarn needle onto the tail. Stitch through both edges and center of the bowl to retain the shape of the mouth. Go back through the center and bring the needle out the front of the mouth. Bring the yarn over the top lip and down through the back to create your division (or cupid's bow). Pull tight and tie this stitch off, but don't cut the yarn. At this point stuff your lips with polyfil and shape as you desire. A little filling goes a long way. Add stitches where necessary to create the look you like. Stitch the back closed.

You now have a pair of great, pouty lips!

What to Do With Your Lips

Use your imaginations (and yes, with this group I'm very afraid when I write that). But here are some ideas:

Make into a lapel pin

Refrigerator magnet

Make an extra large size into a pillow

Make into a monster using eyes, vampire fangs, and the top half of a Dollar Store Whisk.

Cat toy

Add to a pair of slippers.

Use it to decorate a valentines gift.

Add hangers and make Christmas ornaments.

Add extra magnets and put on your back bumper as a message to tailgaters.

Add some cash to put your money where your mouth is.........

Hope you enjoyed this 'ible'. I'd love to hear your ideas on what to do with these as well :)
