Hellooo Everyone! As you may know, spring is upon us and these beautiful blooming flowers to warm winds have inspired me to make something that reminded me of this! I have for you little "fruit" snails! I made these two strawberry and lemon but you can switch up the colors to whatever you please!!!

So, snails are in the group known as "mollusks" which includes snails, slugs, octopus and mussels. Being a mollusk means that they are invertebrates containing no spinal column. There are around 85,000 species of mollusk worldwide, with the biggest being the colossal squid! As far as diet goes for snails, they will eat practically ANYTHING they can fit down their throat, this includes meat, plants and carrion.

Snails are born with their shells which are soft at birth, the shell also grows with the snail and harden as they get more mature. Shells for snails are used for two things basically, shelter and protection. The shell also grows with the snail. The general lifespan of a snail is about 2-3 years with the longest of any snail species being just at 10 years.

One last thing for you guys.... If snails are so slow, how come when you see one its just like BAM! there's a snail!XD

Anyway, hope you enjoy this! If you have any questions PLEASE leave them down below!!

Difficulty: Easy

  • 4.0mm crochet hook
  • stuffing or scrap yarn
  • very small plastic safety eyes
  • any type of liquid glue
  • a pipe cleaner

Starting with "shell" color yarn

  • 6 single crochet in magic ring OR if your new to crochet, chain 2 and put 6 single crochet in the first chain you made.( if your a visual learner, check out the amazing videos for magic ring on YouTube!)
  • increase in every stitch around ( put 2 single crochet in every stitch )
  • *single crochet 1, increase* around whole row
  • *single crochet 2, increase* around whole row
  • single crochet 3 rows
  • *single crochet 2,decrease* around whole row ( a decrease is where you pick up 2 stitches on the hook at the same time to combine them.)
  • Stuff the piece lightly.
  • *single crochet 1, decrease* around whole row
  • *Decrease* around last row
  • Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing to the body later.

Starting with "head" yarn color of your choosing

  • 6 single crochet in magic ring ( if your new to crochet, refer back to step:1)
  • *increase* in every stitch around
  • single crochet 3 rows
  • *single crochet 1, decrease* around whole row
  • Stuff the head (ONLY the head) and add the safety eyes between rows 4-5 and 5 stitches apart
  • single crochet 10 rows
  • *Decrease* around last row
  • Fasten off and sew in all ends.

The Antenna and Spots (optional)

For this step you can get creative with a little bit more! what i did was I used some white foam and cut out little "roundies" for spots, then I cut 2, 1/2" piece of pipe cleaner for antenna and stuck it in the head to where it looked nice ( try to find spots that already have a bit of a gap.) if your making this for a small child you'll want to replace the eyes, spots and antenna with something else like embroidery (and maybe even use bigger yarn and hooks after all, this little fella stands at just 2" tall)

Assembly

Place the shell on top of the middle of the snail and if you have pins, pin it in place. ( If you don't try and place this on a sturdy surface so you have something to press on) then sew from the shell up the body of the snail grabbing just small amounts of the stitches when attaching. try to pull the head back a bit if your having any trouble getting it to sit up ( as this can be difficult with plush snails XD)

Hopefully you enjoyed this pattern! this little plush would make a great last-minute gift ( you can whip these guys up in about 20 minutes if you've crochet a good while) These would also be something really nice to maybe just cheer up someones day and show them you care! <3 However you use these, I hope you liked it and I also hope the pattern was clear. Thank you!
