Crochet Lemon Beret

This pattern is worked in rounds, and does not count any of the chain stitches as a total stitch for that round. The end of each round is joined with a slip stitch. They are only there to get the correct height for the next round. This pattern assumes you know how to increase and decrease, double crochet, front and back post crochet and chain stich with a hand needle.

5.0/5.5 mm crochet hook

Medium size 4 acrylic yarn in yellow and white

scissors

Step One

ROW 1: First with the white yarn create a magic circle and work 12 dc into the ring and join with a slip stitch. <12>

Fasten off and began the next row with the yellow yarn

ROW 2: CH 2 DC in each st around, sl st to join <24>

ROW 3: CH 2, 1 DC in each st, INC in the 2nd st and rep. <36>

ROW 4: CH 2, 1 DC in each st, INC in the 3rd st and rep. <48>

ROW 5: CH 2, 1 DC in each st, INC in the 4th st and rep. <60>

ROW 6: CH 2, 1 DC in each st, INC in the 5th st and rep. <72>

ROW 7: CH 2, 1 DC in each st, INC in the 6th st and rep. <84>

ROW 8: CH 2, 1 DC in each st, INC in the 7th st and rep. Cut yarn and fasten off. <96>

Step Two

*Color change- White*

ROW 9: CH 2, 1 DC in each st, INC in the 8th st and rep. Cut yarn and fasten off<108>

Mark the circle with scrap yarn in 8 sections by folding the circle in half then into quarters and so on. Or you can measure them out whatever works best for you.

Thread your yarn needle with about 14 inches of white yarn. Starting at the bottom edge of the white row tie a knot and bring the needle up from behind and into the space in the bottom of the last row. It is important that you don't split the yarn when doing this. You want to make sure you're going through holes that are already in the crochet. Bring the yarn to the front of the hat.

Insert the needle from the white row into the bottom of the next row. Don’t pull the needle all the way through yet, loop the rest of the yarn around the front of the needle and then pull through the crochet. It should form a small loop or chain. Then insert the needle into the same place you just pulled up from and pull up into the nest row and repeat.

This is called a chain stitch, if that was a little too confusing HERE is a tutorial. Once you get to the middle you can either stop and tie it off there or continue like I did in the pictures by just weaving through the center and continuing to the other side. Do this for each section.
