First you're going to make the cozy itself, with white yarn. You'll be working in rounds, slip stitching to the beginning to complete each round.

Round 1. Chain 24, and slip stitch to the first chain to form a loop, making sure the chain isn't twisted.

Round 2. Chain 2, half-double crochet around, and slip stitch to the beginning.

Round 3. Chain 1, single crochet around, slip stitch to the beginning.

Round 4. Repeat Round 3 for about 25 rows; or until your case is one row longer than your phone or ipod.

Round 5. When your case is long enough, chain 1 and slip stitch across, in both the stitch in the front and in the back, sealing up the bottom of the case. Fasten off your yarn.

To make the top flap on the case, attach your yarn on the side of the top row, as shown in the first picture.

Row 1. Chain 2, and single crochet 12 across the top.

Row 2. Turn your work and chain 1. Single crochet in the next 5 stitches, single crochet decrease, single crochet in the next five stitches.

Row 3. Turn your work and chain 1. Single crochet decrease in next two stitches, single crochet in next 7, single crochet decrease in last two stitches.

Row 4. Turn your work and chain 1. Single crochet decrease, single crochet in next 5 stitches, single crochet decrease.

Row 5. Turn your work and chain 1. Single crochet decrease, single crochet in next 3 stitches, single crochet decrease.

Row 6. Turn your work and chain 1. Single crochet decrease twice, turn.

Row 7. Chain 5, (that's for the button hole), slip stitch in last stitch, and fasten off.

Attach white yarn to the base of the flap, and single crochet up one side of the flap. Single crochet 5 times in the chain-5 space, and single crochet back down the other side of the flap. Slip stitch across the back of the case where the flap folds over (shown in the 4th picture), and fasten off your yarn. Now the case and flap are complete, it's time to decorate it!

We'll start with the wings, since they use the same yarn as the case.

In a Magic Ring, single crochet 6 times. (From now on, don't slip stitch to the beginning).

Row 1. Turn your work, and single crochet across.

Row 2. Turn, (2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet in next) in the next 5 stitches, and 2 single crochets in the last stitch.

Row 3. Turn, (2 single crochet in next stitch, single crochet in next 2).

Row 4. Turn your work, and repeat Row 3.

Fasten off your yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing the wing onto the case.

Crochet one more wing, and sew them on opposite sides of the case, as shown in the picture.

Owl's Eyes

With orange or brown yarn, make a magic ring. In the ring, single crochet 6 times, and slip stitch to the beginning.

Chain 1, single crochet twice in each stitch around.

Slip stitch to the beginning and fasten off the yarn.

Sew the eyes onto the case on either side of the flap, and then sew the buttons in the middle of the eyes.

Owl's Nose

IMG_9765.JPG

Using black yarn or embroidery floss, sew your brown toggle button directly in between the owl's eyes. Tie the ends in a tight knot so the nose won't fall off with a lot of use.

Owl's Feet

Attach your yellow yarn three stitches from the end of the row and chain three times. Slip stitch in the same stitch, chain 5, slip stitch in the next stitch. Chain three again, and slip stitch in the same stitch. Fasten off.

Skip 4 stitches and repeat the above; then your owl cozy is complete!

Enjoy!

Finished!
