Crochet Hedehog
I made a hedgehog, because I think they are adorable and when I was planning gifts I was not wanting to spend a lot, so I made a hedgehog, and it was the perfect gift, they also make great display items, as well as kid friendly toys. The great thing about it being a kid toy is kids don't care about perfection, if it's a stuffed animal kids will love it no matter what.
Supplies
White yarn (10 yds.)
Brown yarn (15 yds.)
Blue yarn (1 foot) or other color for the eyes.
Pink marker
4.5 mm crochet hook.
While doing this project there are a few stiches and their abbreviations you'll need to know, unfortunately, to step you through the process of each of the stitches would require a full Intractable, but thankfully others have made these! Thanks to them for explaining the stitches.
HDC means Half Double Crochet.
Slip Stitch
Slip knot
Slip Knot/ Magic Circle
Make a slip knot
First Row, Expanding
In the slip knot HDC seven, join with a slip stich.
Second Row, Expanding
Two HDC in each stitch, join with a slip stitch
Lengthen
HDC around five times, at the end of each round do a slip stitch to connect the round.
Flip Inside Out
Flip inside out so the tail is on the inside, this will make the final project easier.
Stuff
Stuff the stuffed animal to the brim, if needed you can add more stuffing in the middle of step 7
Decrease
HDC two together all around twice. Don't forget the slip stitch to connect the round!
Tie Off
Tie off the string and cut about six inches away from knot, thread it through the stitches and then pull it into the stuffed animal
Eyes
Going around stitches tie the eye color around it. Then wrap the string around until there’s about an inch left, then pull it into the body of the hedgehog, I recommend having the place you tied it off at as the face.
Fur
Slip knot the yarn around the stitches for fur, do this on the top half of the hedgehog
Trim Fur
Trim the fur to desired length, I suggest about an inch and a half.
Nose
Make a pink slip stitch between the eyes, and down one row, tie, thread the ends into the hedgehog.
Congratulations, you've finished, now you're ready to display your adorable critter, or give it away!
