Halloween is coming up! It's time to get in the Halloween spirit. Halloween is such a fun time of year. It is a fun time to make and give treats to friends and neighbors and its also the perfect time to showcase your crochet skills by making some cute and spooky Handmade Halloween crochet decorations right from pumpkins, Jack O' Lanterns, and cute little ghosts and witches. If you celebrate and love decorating your home for Halloween, then here is a perfect cute DIY Halloween decoration project for you.

Today am sharing the pattern for this spooky handmade Crochet Halloween Candy Basket. You will definitely have fun crocheting them because they are super easy to make and they do work up real quick. This will make a perfect table decoration as well as a treat bowl for your party. The basket pattern is made up with Single Crochets and Spike Stitch or you can call them as Long Single Crochet. Facial features are sewed up with black yarn. You can also make the basket with white yarn and add a ghost face.

Size:-

5 Inches - can be customized to any size

Notes:-

For this whole Pattern, the Starting Chain 2 is not counted as a stitch. It is Just to bring the yarn to a working height. Start the next stitch in the same stitch.

4 mm Crochet Hook

Round 1:-

Start with a Magic Circle.

12 Double Crochets in the circle.

Pull the yarn end to close the gap.

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

12 Stitches.

Round 2:-

Chain 2.

2 Double Crochets in each stitch around.

Slip stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

24 stitches.

Round 3:-

Chain 2. 1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC, 2DC).

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

36 Stitches.

Round 4:-

Chain 2. 

1 Double Crochet each in 2 stitches.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC*2, 2DC)

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

48 Stitches.

Round 5:-

Chain 2. 

1 Double Crochet each in 3 stitches.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC*3 2DC)

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

60 Stitches.


I stopped with the increase round here.

The Base measures 5 inches.


If you wish to make a Bigger Basket, follow the below pattern:-

Start each round with Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)

Round 4--DC 2, 2DC in next stitch(48) 

Round 5--DC 3, 2DC in next stitch(60)

Round 6--DC 4, 2DC in next stitch(72)

 .....and so on.

Turning Base:-

Start with Chain 1.(Not Counted as a stitch).

1 Single Crochet in the Back Loop.

1 Single Crochet each in the Back Loop of the remaining stitches.

Slip Stitch on top of the first Single Crochet . Make the slip stitch in both the loops.

Sides of the Basket:- (Step 1)

Chain 1(Not Counted as a stitch)

1 Long Single Crochet or Spike Stitch as it is called in the same stitch.

1 Single Crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat(1 Long SC, 1 SC).

Slip stitch on top of the first stitch.


How to Make a Long Single Crochet...?

  • Long Single Crochet or the Single Crochet Spike stitch is same as a Single Crochet, but instead of inserting the hook in the current row stitch, Insert your hook into the stitch which is one row below the current row stitch.
  • Yarn Over, pull up a loop that is the same height as your current row stitch. 
  • Pull through both loops.
  • This is One Long Single Crochet stitch complete.

Step 2:-

Chain 1(Not Counted as a stitch)

1 Single Crochet in the same stitch.

1 Long Single Crochet or Spike Stitch as it is called in the next stitch.

Repeat(1 SC, 1 Long SC).

Slip stitch on top of the first stitch.


Keep Repeating  Step 1 and Step 2 untill you reach the size needed.


Just remember to:-

  • Chain 1 at the start of each round. This won't be counted as a stitch.
  • Keep alternating the starting stitch of each round.
  • If the Starting stitch is a Long Single Crochet , then start the round with a single crochet and vice versa.
  • Slip stitch to end round.

Border:-

Chain 1.

1 Reverse Single crochet in each stitch around.

Slip stitch and weave off.


To make a Reverse Single Crochet:-

  1. Insert your hook, in the next stitch to the right.
  2. Yarn over, and draw the yarn through the stitch.
  3. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook.

Eyes:-Make Two

Start with a Magic Circle.

Chain 1(Not counted as a stitch)

6 Single Crochets in the circle.

Slip stitch on top of the first single Crochet and weave off.

Using a yarn needle, sew the eyes on to the basket.

Weave off yarn ends.

Facial Features:-

Sew the smile and make straight lines across the smile for the crooked smile face.

Sew Two vertical lines for the nose.

Weave off yarn ends.
