Have you ever pulled out your earbuds from a bag or pocket only to find them hopelessly tangled? I have. So, I decided to create a crochet organizer to solve that problem. I really wanted a design that would hold the earbuds wrapped in a lose circle so as not to bend the wires and would be easy to use and so this pattern was born!

This pattern is written assuming you already know how to crochet. If you want to learn there are a ton of great tutorials out there to chose from.

I have been knitting and crocheting for quite a few years now but this is my first real pattern that I have written so I hope you enjoy!

This pattern works up really quick and would be great for all those little leftover bits of yarn you have lying around.

Note: You can use a different size of hook and/or yarn but it will change the size of your finished project. One issue you may have with this is the size of the button holes will change. I found that with my hook and yarn size in this pattern the button holes should work with a button anywhere from 1/2" to 3/4" diameter. If you need a different size of button hole you can add or take away a few stitches from the button hole loops as you crochet.

Supplies

For this project you will need:

  • A pair of earbuds
  • Yarn (size 4 medium/worsted weight) approx. 6 yards
  • Crochet Hook Size H / 5.0mm
  • Scissors
  • Matching button (1/2" - 3/4" diameter)
  • Needle - that will fit through your button's holes

Stitches and Abbreviations

Stitch = st

Chain = ch

Slip Stitch= sl st

Single Crochet = sc

To Start: Ch 7. Join with a sl st to first ch. Ch 21. Sc into 7th ch from hook.

Row 1: Sc in the next 14 sts. Then working into the middle of the ch loop make 6 sc.

Now instead of turning and crocheting back along your stitches, you are going to continue in the round. You will be crocheting back along the the bottom of the original chain stitches. (see photos)

Sc in the next 15 sts. Sc 6 sts into ch loop. (42 sts)

Row 2: Sc into the next 15 sts. (Sc into next st. 2sc into next st.) Repeat 2 more times. Sc into the next 15 sts. (Sc into the next st. 2sc into the next st.) Repeat 2 more times. Sl st to next sc. (48)

Finishing: Fasten off and use needle to weave in ends.

Place your button in the center of your organizer and using the needle and a small piece of yarn, sew the button on. Weave in your yarn ends and trim.

Take your earbuds and gently wind them around 3 fingers. Place them on your organizer with the button facing up and in the wires encircling the button. Take one button hole and fold it over the wires and button it closed. Repeat with the other side.

That's it! Now enjoy your tangle-free earbuds. Thanks for reading!
