Back Panel, Row 1
Foundation chain: chain a multiple of 4 and then chain an extra 5 for measurement A (from shoulder to shoulder)
Row 1: *(2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr) all in 5th chain from hook then sk 3*
Repeat ** until the end of the row. When 2 stitches are remaining, sk 1 and tr in the final stitch
Back Panel, Row 2
Row 2: ch 4 and *(2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr) in the ch 1 space of the V below*
Repeat ** until the end of the row. Once at the end tr in the final stitch (the top of the ch 5)
Repeat row 2 until you reach measurement B
Front Panel
Time for some maths!
Measure how many clusters equal measurement C and A.
Then do (A-C)/2 = top of front panel in clusters.
Now you have how wide the front panel should be in clusters, multiply this number by 4 to get how much you need to chain!
Front Panel, Row 1
Row 1: ch 5 then *(2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr) all in 5th chain from hook then sk 3*
Repeat ** until the end of the row. When 2 stitches are remaining, sk 1 and tr in the final stitch
Front Panel, Row 2
Row 2: now we need to increase! We will only be increasing on one side
To increase:
start the row as usual with ch 4 (2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr)...
After the final cluster, put (2 tr + ch 1 + 1 tr) in the final space where you would normally put 1 tr
Front Panel, Row 3
Row 3: start with ch 4 and 2 tr in the space you just created.
Continue as usual in the first full cluster.
Front Panel, Row 4
Row 4: start the row as usual with ch 4 (2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr)...
In the space of the (2 tr + ch 1 + 1 tr) from the previous row put a full cluster so (2 tr +ch 1 + 2 tr) and then add another tr to finish the row.
Front Panel, Row 5
Row 5: ch 4 then *(2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr) all in the space in the cluster in the previous row*
Repeat ** until the end of the row. Tr in the final space
(this row is a normal row without any increases, the same as the rows for the back panel.
Repeat rows 2-5 until you have the same amount of clusters as half of measurement A’s clusters
Front Panel, Row 6
Row 6: repeat row 5 (no increases) until the front panel is the same length as the back panel then fasten off.
Repeat rows 1-6 to create another front panel.
Sleeves, Row 1
Foundation chain: measurement D
Row 1: *(2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr) all in 5th chain from hook then sk 3*
Repeat ** until the end of the row. When 2 stitches are remaining, sk 1 and tr in the final stitch
Sleeves, Row 2
Row 2: ch 4 and *(2 tr + ch 1 + 2 tr) in the ch 1 space of the V below*
Repeat ** until the end of the row. Once at the end tr in the final stitch (the top of the ch 5)
Repeat row 2 until you reach measurement B
Sew It Together
Sew the two ends of the sleeve together to make a sleeve then fasten off and repeat on the other leave.
Next sew together the top of the front panel and the back panel. Then continue around the sleeve, for this step make sure the seam is on the bottom and the sleeve is flattened so half is sewn to the back panel and half is sewn to the front panel.
Fasten off then sew from under the sleeve to the bottom of both the front and back panel.
Fasten off and repeat on the other side.
Border & Front Tie
Attach the yarn to any corner. HDC in each stitch along the edge of the cardigan.
Once you get to the part of the front panel where you start to decrease for the neckline ch 50. Turn then slip stitch into each chain. Once at the end continue to HDC around the border until you reach the same spot where you chained but on the opposite side. Ch 50 then turn and sl st into each chain. Continue to HDC in the border until you reach the first stitch. Sl st then fasten off!
Congratulations!
You've finished!
