Onion Pakodas are an absolute favorite among Indians, and I am no exception. These crispy fritters are more than just a snack; they hold a special place in our hearts, especially on those cozy evenings when we yearn for a quick tea-time treat. What sets this recipe apart is the vibrant blend of Indian spices that gives the pakodas their irresistible flavor. The tantalizing aroma of cumin, coriander, and turmeric creates a symphony of taste in every bite. And the best part? You can easily adjust the spice levels to suit your personal liking. Whether you prefer a mild and soothing experience or a fiery explosion of flavors, these onion pakodas can be tailored to satisfy your unique taste buds.

Enjoy them alongside a steaming cup of tea.

  • 2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder

In a large mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced onions, chopped coriander leaves, and finely chopped green chilies. Then add the ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.

Make the Batter

Gradually add the gram flour and rice flour to the onion mixture. Mix well while slowly adding water as needed until it forms a thick paste that evenly coats the onion slices.

Tip: The consistency of the batter is crucial. It should be thick enough to coat the onion slices evenly.

Fry the Pakodas

Heat about one inch of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop small portions of the onion batter into the oil using a spoon or your fingers. Fry the pakodas for about three to five minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Tip: Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning and ensure even cooking.

Serve and Enjoy

Once the pakodas are cooked and crispy, remove them from the pan and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Serve the crispy onion pakodas as a delicious snack, either on its own or with your favorite dipping sauce.

Enjoy your homemade Onion Pakodas!
