Crispy Chicken Sandwich (With Copycat Chick-Fil-A Sauce!)
The delicious sandwich comes together quickly, and you probably already have all you need to make your new favorite recipe!!:)
And to top it off it’s made with a homemade copycat chick-fil-a sauce that is soooo good and REALLY easy to make!!
Supplies
For The Sandwich:
* 2 slices of bread, or the end of a loaf ( I used this recipe https://www.instructables.com/Easy-Yeast-Bread-Anyone-Can-Make/)
* 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
* 1-2 pieces romaine or iceberg lettuce
* Fried chicken (recipe follows)
* Chick-fil-A sauce (recipe follows)
Tools needed:
Knife
Spoon/fork
3 bowls
2 plates
Small pot for frying chicken
Making the Sauce
This copycat Chick-fil-A sauce is amazing on practically anything!!
I literally make this every week!
Cool story: when I first started making this we hadn’t been to a Chick-fil-A in a few years and so I wasn’t really sure that it was just like it, however about a month ago my Dad and brothers went to Chick-fil-A and brought some sauce back! For fun I decided to compare my sauce with their’s (not expecting for mine to be as good) and I literally could not tell them apart!! They were almost identical in taste and color!!
I would even suggest saving this instructable just for the sauce part!! It really is that good!
While I have cut this down to make just enough for this sandwich, this recipe can be double or even quadrupled and will last in the fridge for up to 10 days!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/4 mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon ketchup
- *optional* dash of hot sauce
DIRECTIONS:
Add all ingredients together in a bowl and mix until well combined.
Set aside or in fridge until step 3.
Cooking the Chicken
This chicken is crispy, flavorful and moist, perfect for a sandwich!!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 large chicken breast (approx the size of your bread)*
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Oil for frying
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1. Prepare your chicken by trimming off excess fat, set aside.
Step 2. In a bowl combine egg and water and stir well
Step 3. In a bowl combine flour and all seasonings, mix well
Step 4. Heat oil over medium heat
Step 5. Dredge your chicken in egg and then in flour mixture
Step 6-8 Repeat step 5. You should have coated the chicken a total of 4 times, this is what makes the chicken so crispy!!
Step 9. Carefully place chicken in heated oil, cook for 4-5 minutes and then flip and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes. or until it has an internal temperature of 165f.
Step 10. Place on a clean plate lined with a paper towel and let cool for 5 minutes.
*You can make this with a few smaller pieces of chicken instead.
Assembling the Sandwich
Now for the best part!!
Start by generously spreading both sides of the bread with your sauce.
Next, on one piece of bread place your cheese, on the other half put your lettuce
Then pour any additional sauce on your chicken and place chicken on bottom slice of bread.
Lastly quickly place your top slice of bread on top!!
ENJOY!!!
Note: If using thick chicken and, or bread, this sandwich is extremely hard to bite all the way through, and you end up looking rather hilarious while attempting to the first time< don't ask me how I know:):)
