This is going to be showing you how to make spooky ghost decoration even spookier by having it light up by covering its mouth in fake blood.

Supplies

Needed:

  • Ghost with light up head (from Target)
  • Alligator clip cables
  • Copper (or any conductive) tape
  • Jumper wires
  • LED lights
  • Cardboard
  • Fake blood (mine came from Target but any would probably work)
  • Some kind of battery pack that terminates at wires
  • Electrical tape
  • Wire Strippers

Not needed but useful:

  • Soldering iron
  • Solder
  • Salt
  • Fake fingers (mine came from Target but any would probably work)
  • Command strips

Remove Existing Ghost Button

Cut off the existing button that turns on the light inside the ghost's head. Then strip the wires and test/mark the positive and negative ends.

Then cut a small hole in the back of the ghost's hood to feed the wires through.

Create Backplate and Attach Battery

Cut a piece of cardboard the rough shape of the ghost's back, this is where we will attach all the wiring.

Attach the battery pack to the bottom of the plate with a command strip so that the wires are facing up.

Wire LEDs

Take two red LEDs and wire them together in series.

This can be done by soldering them together using a jumper cable or with alligator clips.

Then attach the LEDs to the opposite side of the cardboard plate from the battery, make note of which is the positive and negative side.

Wire Mouth/switch

Attach two pieces of wire to the mouth of the ghost using conductive tape.

Route the wires away from the mouth using white electrical tape to hide them and make them accessible from the back.

Wire Everything Together

Attach the four different parts of the circuit together (I used alligator clips) according to the diagram.

As you are doing so attach the excess wire to the cardboard plate using electrical tape.

Attach the Plate to the Ghost Body

Using command strips, attach the cardboard plate with all the circuitry to the back of the ghost body so that the LEDs will shine through it.

Attach Blood Holder/mix Blood

Using electrical tape attach one of the fake fingers to one of the ghost's hands.

Fill the finger with fake blood and then add salt to it and mix it up (while the fake blood is slightly conductive on its own the salt increases it greatly)

And that's it. You are done!
