You can find the Italian version of this post here.
Recently my son Michele was born, a beautiful baby boy 😊. He is my first child and when things like this happen, all your thoughts rotate around him. You become so responsible that you think of everything that can guarantee him a prosperous and sustainable future and you also focus on thinking about the effect that any wicked actions done now could have on his future life. Mind you, not that these topics are new to me. In fact, I am an environmental engineer and researcher who has spent a good part of his university and working career actively supporting practices that rotate around the concept of sustainability. I would like to remind you that the United Nations Commission on Environment and Development defines sustainable development as " satisfying the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to satisfy their own needs".
Obviously these concepts concern political aspects that I don't want to discuss. But, can we concretely do something to make our daily life more sustainable? In this regard I report a practical example.
Cutting
We were recently given this cam, comfortable to monitor the baby while he sleeps in his crib. Obviously, there was an immediate need to place it near the crib, where there are no bases of support. Consequently, taking inspiration from the packaging that came with the cam, I decided to cut out 3 simple pieces as in the picture:
Assembling
The three pieces of paper, should be assembled together to form a sort of "table":
Mounting the Cam and All the System to the Cradle
I then used two rubber bands to secure the cam firmly to the base plate and place it on the cradle:
Final Consideration
I hope it helps, at least, to get you thinking about how much and how you can meet your needs today, in a sustainable way, while ensuring future generations have the same ability to meet their own.
