Creating the Roof

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

In this step we will add height to the walls, but they will need to be cut at an angle for the roof. The logs colored blue in the next steps will be used for the roof.

Instructions

  1. Select the logs on top of the short walls. Hold ALT+ move to create a copy and move the copied logs on top of the last. Change the color to help us keep the logs organized.
  2. Choose Edit>Duplicate and make four more copies. Select all of the logs for the roof and group them together.
  3. Place a roof shape on the workplane.
  4. Rotate the wedge 90 degrees, so the flat sides are parallel with the short walls.
  5. Select the roof logs and the wedge. Choose Adjust>Align. Select the two longest roof logs so the black tabs are surrounding it. Center the roof to the group.
  6. Scale the roof so it looks like the one in the image.
  7. Press "W" to switch to the workplane tool. Move the cursor over one side of the roof. Left click to choose that side and align the workplane to that side.
  8. Place a box on the workplane.
  9. Change the box to a hole and scale it's length and height until it covers the logs on both sides of the cabin.
  10. Repeat steps 7-9 for the other side of the wedge.
  11. Select the roof and delete it.
  12. Select both boxes and the log group for the roof. Group them together.
  13. Select all logs of the cabin and change their color to brown.
  14. Press "W" to switch to the workplane tool. Move the curse to the position shown in the image.
  15. Place a box on the workplane.
  16. Flatten the box to 2mm.
  17. Stretch the box until it is slightly longer than the walls on both sides of the cabin.
  18. Stretch the box until it is slightly longer than the walls on both sides of the cabin.
  19. Continue to the next lesson.
