Creating a Tissue Paper Flower Centerpiece

This DIY Tissue Paper Flower Centerpiece is the perfect decoration for a table. It could be used at a dinner party or even a wedding. This project can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes. In this Instructable, I will you show you how to make this fun decoration.

For this craft you will need tissue paper, two Styrofoam ball halves, and a candlestick. You can use a whole Styrofoam ball if you have one.

You will also need a pair of scissors, a stapler, a ruler, a hot glue gun, and extra hot glue sticks.

Warning: the glue gun can be very hot and messy, so you need to be careful.

Lay the tissue paper out on a flat surface.

Fold the tissue paper in half to create a long rectangle.

Fold the tissue paper in half again to create a big square.

Measure and mark where you are going to cut. The measurements are 6 cm in height and 8 cm in length. When making the 6 cm marks, start at the top right corner and work your way down. When making the 8 cm marks, start at the top right corner and work towards the left.

Fold the tissue paper on the side that you marked with the 8 cm in length.

You should fold the paper so there are three sections. Make sure the marks you made are on the outer side so you can see it.

Cut the tissue paper on the 6 cm marks you made earlier.

Cut the ends that are closed. If you don't do this then you won't get the right sized rectangles.

You will need to create 50 flowers, so you will need to cut out 200 rectangles.

Stack four rectangles of tissue paper together.

Fold the rectangle accordion style along the longer edge. The folds should be about 1 cm.

After folding the tissue paper, the end result should be a long, narrow rectangle.

Staple the folded tissue paper in the center.

Cut the edges of the tissue paper.

You can choose any shape you want. I have provided four different shapes you can use. Having multiple shapes adds texture to the centerpiece.

For the first one you cut a rounded edge. For the second you cut the two ends to create a pointed tip. For the third one you cut the corners with a triangle in the middle. For the forth one you make multiple cuts along the edge that are about 1 cm long.

Carefully separate the layers of the flower. Start with the inside layer. Pull the layers toward the middle, where you stapled the tissue paper together.

If the layers don't separate easily, you can lightly rub them between your fingers and it will make it easier to pull them apart.

You will need to repeat steps 8 - 12 until you have made 50 flowers.

If you have two halves of a Styrofoam ball, you will need to glue them together. Put glue on one half and then press the two halves together.

Glue the candlestick to the Styrofoam ball. Put hot glue on the candlestick and then press the Styrofoam ball on top.

Note: you need to be careful, because if you apply too much pressure the Styrofoam ball will come off.

Glue the flowers to the Styrofoam ball. Put hot glue on the bottom of the flower, then press it onto the Styrofoam ball. Start from the bottom of the Styrofoam ball. Continue gluing the flowers until you've covered the entire Styrofoam ball in flowers.

Now that you Tissue Paper Flower Centerpiece is complete, you can put it anywhere in your house. It will add a little color to any room.
