Creating a Stylish Stainless Steel Wine Rack

If you're like many of us, your wine collection is stored in a cluttered space, making it difficult to find that one special bottle when you need it. To solve this problem, I designed a sleek and practical wine storage system. This wine rack is designed to hold bottles horizontally, allowing you to easily read the labels while showcasing your collection. Mounted against the wall, it takes up minimal floor space, making it a perfect solution for small rooms or modern interiors.
Supplies
Materials :
- Stainless steel square tubes 20mm x 20mm
- Stainless steel round tubes ⌀ 12 mm
- Screws for wall mounting
- Concrete dowels
Tools :
- Band saw
- Angle grinder
- Drill press
- Drill bit ⌀ 12,2 mm
- Tig welding machine
- Drill
- Screwdriver
Sketch

I start all my projects with a quick hand-drawn sketch. The main goal here is to determine the dimensions the wine rack should have.
3D Design

Next, I usually create a 3D model of the object I want to build. This allows me to check if everything I have in mind can actually fit together. For this, I use Autodesk Fusion 360. Here, the first step was to determine the spacing between the horizontal tubes to accommodate different types of bottles without them falling. Then, I designed all the individual parts and assembled the entire structure
Technical Drawing

After the 3D design, if I have parts that need machining, I create 2D drawings with all the necessary dimensions for manufacturing the pieces.
Machining

With the plans, I was able to complete the very long process of cutting all the tubes to the correct dimensions and drilling all the holes.
After machining, a quick test is necessary to ensure that everything fits together properly.
Welding

The next step was welding. First, I welded the square tube sides. Then, I inserted the round tubes into the holes and tack-welded them to hold everything in place. I also added small tube pieces that will allow the racks to be mounted on the walls. For this, I used my Stahlwerk CTM-250 ST welder in TIG mode, which works perfectly for almost all my welding projects.
Test and Installation

Once everything was welded together, I did some tests with bottles to ensure that everything held well and was strong enough. And it was! The structure is really rigid, so there’s no need to worry about your finest wines bottles. All that’s left is to install the racks in my cellar. To do this, I simply drill holes in the walls, insert wall anchors, and screw the racks into place. That’s it—the project is complete! Now, it’s time to organize all the bottles.
