Crazy Drone

This article is about a flying drone suspended on electrical wire. Thus you might say that it is not really a drone because it does not fly on its own. However, this is a low cost project.

You can see in the videos that at times this flying object is hovering in the air.

Supplies

Components: drone motors - 2 (might might need spare), drone propellers (you can purchase motors with propellers included), insulated wires, sticky tape (clear tape, masking tape), small piece of cardboard, 3 V power source (AA/AAA/C/D batteries), battery harness, 1.5 mm insulated metal wire (for attaching batteries to clothing rack).

Tools: scissors.

Optional components: solder.

Optional tools: wire stripper, soldering iron.

Attach Drone Motor

I attached drone motor to triangle piece of cardboard that I cut out with scissors. I had an electrical tape. However, this tape was not very strong.

The piece of cardboard used for the propeller cover was actually very long. You can calculate the circumference. It is almost six times the radius of the propeller or three times the diameter of the propeller (2*pi*r).

Testing

I tried holding the power source. A number of times the drone hit me in the face and it was not a pleasant feeling.

Then I decided to attach the power source to cloth drying rack (shown in the photo). This prevented painful collision with drone and my arms.

Testing shows that the propellers are strong and did not break during collision with the clothing rack.
