Growing up attending Grade School, every year during the holidays, I would make a holiday card for my parents. It all started with a white sheet of paper or construction paper and a pack of 8 jumbo crayons or pack of 24.

This allowed each of our young minds to create our colorful masterpiece which was our gift based upon the occasion. My parents kept every card that I gave them from 1st grade through 8th grade and gave me these cards back when I turned 21. I am sharing some of my favorite designs using cookie cutters as my free hand isn’t what it used to be.

Choosing to make homemade cards using crayons is simple, but meaningful to those who receive those cards.Try your own creativity at creating a homemade card from scratch and you might be surprised how talented you really are…..Good Luck!

Open folder and use scissors to cut down the middle of the folder.

Pick a size and cut using measurements on mat, ruler and box cutter knife to trim folder.

Use the first card created to be a template for each colored folder.

Repeat the process by tracing the template on folder and cutting along the edge for each folder.

Each folder will yield 2 reversible cards giving you the option of using the light side or dark side.

Note: 8 cards were created from 4 folders, will use 4 cards to give you ideas of what you can do; set aside remaining 4 to create cards for any occasion or holiday when you need.

Design Homemade Card #1:

First, choose the color for your card; them pick an occasion or holiday. It is time to start.

Since the holidays are coming along with snow, let's make a Snowman Christmas card.

An Old-Fashioned cookie cutters collection was my inspiration for all 4 cards. There was a Snowman.

Take the snowman cookie cutter, gently press against the card and outline using a Crayola blue marker.

Trace it twice for a brighter outline.

Hand draw some of the features:

Use Crayola black marker for hat, eyes and buttons.

Use Crayola orange marker for nose.

Use Crayola brown marker for shovel head and handle

Use Crayola gray marker for smile

The following crayons will be used to fill in the distinct features of the snowman:

Hat -- Black Crayon

Nose - Orange Crayon

Smile - Red Crayon

Shovel Head - Red Crayon

Shovel Handle - Green Crayon

Smile - Red (color twice to emphasize SMILE)

Add Snow to Card:

Take a cotton ball and gently pull apart from left to right and stretch 1.4 inch to 1/2 inch upward.

Use glue stick and glide along bottom of card halfway. Then, place stretched cotton ball over stick glue area.

Press gently as it will dry within 1 to 3 minutes. Repeat this process using another cotton ball for the other side.

Add Verbiage to Card:

Use a black permanent marker and write 'LET IT SNOW' in capital letters or any other Christmas saying.

Design Homemade Card #2:

Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate those we love.

In an Old-Fashioned cookie cutters collection, there was a beautiful tin heart.

Take the heart cookie cutter, gently press against the card and outline using a Crayola red marker.

Trace the heart twice for a brighter outline.

Fill in your Heart:

Using a red crayon and a small grater, grade half of the red crayon into the heart outline.

Place the parchment paper over the crayon shavings and heat for 1-2 minutes with small iron.

Peel off parchment paper and let cool for 60 seconds.

Add Glitter to Card:

Use glue stick and glide along on both sides and the top of the card. Then sprinkle red and gold glitter over area and let dry for 1-2 minutes. Then, shake the card gently over prep mat. Then, set card aside to dry for another 2-3 minutes.

Add Verbiage to Card:

Design Homemade Card #4:

First, choose the color for your card; them pick an occasion or holiday. It is time to start.

4th of July is my favorite holiday as my birthday is right around this day of celebration.

In my collection of cookie cutters, there were multiple star shaped cookie cutters.

Take the large star cookie cutter, gently press against the card and outline using a

Crayola blue marker.

Trace the star twice for a brighter outline. Repeat for each additional star shape on card.

The following crayons will be used to fill in the distinct features of the Stars:

1 Large Star: Deep Blue Crayon along with 1 additional star

1 Small Star - Red Glitter

Add Glitter to Card:

Use glue stick and glide along on both sides and the top of the card. Then sprinkle red and gold glitter over area and let dry for 1-2 minutes. Then, shake the card gently over prep mat. Then, set card aside to dry for another 2-3 minutes.

Add Verbiage to Card:

Use a Crayola black marker to write 'Happy 4th of July' in any style of writing.
