Cranny Cardboard Shelving

We have an odd little cranny in our closet that seemed impossible to fit anything into. It was extremely narrow and tall (9" x 12" x 5'). At the same time, we had a ton of cardboard boxes of various sizes from our move, which turned out to provide excellent shelving material for this particular space.

The key to having the boxes work out at shelves was exactly the narrowness of the space, which provided support for the sides and/or corners of the boxes. Another key to this contraption working out was rolling the clothes into tubes to fit nicely into the little nooks created by the boxes.

Materials:

Cardboard boxes and a narrow space

Tape the flaps to the inside of the box for security.

What I realized here is that the boxes don't have to exactly fit into the narrow space. They can be stacked on top of each other as in the photo, and the combination of the friction between box and wall as well as the support of the clothes in the cracks, will support the boxes.

Rolling the clothes up made insertion into spots very easy. I was able to fill in the entire 5' tall space and it's holding up very well after several months of use.
