Craft Technologies

My name is Krisan Robinson and this is my Craft Technology blog. This week I created a paper circuit and then taught my boyfriend how to create himself. Here is a blog full of pictures and explanations of the process.

My Paper Circuit Creation

This is the paper circuit I created in class on Wednesday. I have never done something like this before, so I decided to keep things pretty simple. I followed an example that was at our table and created my own. When I first tried to connect the circuit the LED did not light up. I noticed that my copper tape was not as smooth as it could have been so I smoothed it out and tried to connect the circuit once more, this time it worked! I created my circuit first and then proceeded to draw a picture on the front. I chose to do something space related because that's what blinking lights remind me of. I really liked doing this project and had lots of fun doing it!

My boyfriend came up for the weekend and before he headed back to provo I decided to teach him how to do a paper circuit. When I created my paper circuit in class it took me about ten minutes. He's a smart guy and I knew it would probably only take him just a few minutes. It ended up taking hours. For some reason his circuits were not lighting up. This was his first attempt at making the circuit. He drew a picture of Micronesia and proceeded to create a simple circuit with only one LED light. We both made sure the positive was connected to the positive and the negative was connected to the negative, but it still didn't light up.

So then we tried it again. We started with all new material, but after we completed the circuit, the light still did not turn on. We tried smoothing down the tape, but that didn't make a difference. The connection was right and the lightbulb worked when it was just placed on the battery, but did not work when attached to the paper.

One Last Try.

I had one more set of supplies, so we tried it a third time. This time I instructed him to make a circuit exactly like mine. He did just that, but the light still didn't work out! We tried using copper tape to hold down the light wires, but that didn't help. We then used clear tape to hold down the light, but it still didn't successfully light up the LED. We tried many different things, but did not end up lighting up the LED light ever. We are still confused as to why it didn't work.
