Cozy Cocoon Crochet Shrug

This is an amazingly cozy shrug that is a fairly simple pattern, and really pays off in the end! It’s very cozy for any season, and is perfect if your feeling a little cold or for a gift for a friend/family member. This pattern is composed of very simple stitches, which are chain(=ch), single crochet(=sc), half double crochet(=hdc) and double crochet(=dc). *These are all in the American terminology.

If you have any suggestions or questions, leave it in the comments and I will be sure to help you!

Hope you enjoy!

The body should look like a giant rectangle blanket. It’s just a repetition of the same 4 rows over and over again, and in the end, it looks like a blanket made of seashells! Anyways...

Row 1: Ch 196, sc in second chain from hook. “Ch3, skip the next 2 stitches, sc in next stitch, ch3, skip the next 3 stitches, sc into next stitch”. Repeat “” 27 more times. -Sc (57), ch3 spaces (56)

Row 2: Ch3 (counts as dc throughout), turn, “dc 4 times into the next ch3 space, ch1, skip the sc, 1 dc into next ch3, ch1, skip the sc” Repeat “” 27 more times. Then, dc into last stitch. -Dc(142), ch1 spaces(56)

Row 3: Ch1, turn, sc into first stitch, “ch3, skip the (ch1, 1 dc) and sc into the next ch1 space, ch3, skip the 4dc, sc into the ch1 space”. Repeat “” 27 more times. Sc into last dc. -Sc (57), ch3 spaces (56)

Row 4: Ch4 (counts as dc plus a ch1 throughout), turn, “dc into next ch3 space, ch1, skip the next sc, dc 4 times into ch3 space, ch1, skip the next sc”. Repeat “” 27 more times. Dc into the last sc. -Dc(142), ch1 spaces(56)

Row 5: Ch1, turn, sc into first stitch, “ch3, skip the next 4dc, sc into the next ch1, ch3, skip the next dc, sc into the next ch1 space”. Repeat “” 27 more times. Sc into last ch1 space. -Sc (57), ch3 spaces (56)

Rows 6 - 73: Repeat rows 2-5, 17 more times.

Fasten off, weave in the ends.

The Sleeve Holes

To make the sleeves, you have to fold the soon-to-be shrug in half, and seam around half of the 2 halves together.

You will want to sew together 19 rows together, rows 1-19 to rows 73-54. You should have 35 rows for the sleeve hole.

Repeat on the other side.

Ok, so, you are nearly done! Just 2 more little steps to go, and compared to the body of the shrug, this is nothing.

So, with the right side facing you, create a slipknot on your hook ant start in the dc row end next to the seam you create to make the sleeve holes. Hdc twice into the dc row end, “hdc once in the next sc row end, hdc twice in the next dc row end”, and repeat “” until you’ve gone all the way around, and join. - Hdc (53)

Row 2-4: Ch1, turn, hdc into the next 53 stitches, join.

Row 5: Ch1, turn, sc into the next 53 stitches, join.

Fasten off, weave in the ends. Repeat this on the other side : )

Yay, last step! : )

With the right side facing you, create a slipknot on your hook and start in the first stitch to the left of your sleeve seams.

Row 1: Hdc into the first stitch, “hdc twice into the next ch3 space, hdc into the next sc”. Repeat “” 54 more times. Move to the other side of the original ch row, hdc into the first stitch, “Hdc twice into the next ch space, had into the next sc”. Repeat “” 54 more times, join.

Rows 2-5: Ch1, turn, hdc all the way around, join.

Fasten off, weave in the ends

Congratulations, your done! ; )
