Have you ever had a super comfy blanket that you just love snuggling up to and wish you had a sweater in that same material? Well now you can!

This Instructable will go over how to make one of your favorite old blankets into your new favorite sweater.

Cutting the Bodice and Arms From the Blanket Material

I am making this sweater for my youngest daughter, so I am using Brindille and Twig's lounge sweatshirt pattern, but you can use any of your favorite sweater patterns.

The first thing we will cut out is the bodice and arms from the blanket material. My pattern has the option to cut those out together, which is one less thing to sew for me.

Make sure that you are only cutting out the bodice piece and the arms from the blanket material. Most likely the blanket material will not have enough stretch for the cuffs and we will have to cut those with a different material.

Cut Out the Arm Cuffs, Neck, and Waist With the Ribbed Material

The next step would be to to cut the arm cuff, neck cuff, and waist from the pattern.

You want to make sure you are using a stretchy material for this. I choose to use a ribbed fabric as this will have the best stretch.

Sewing the Bodice Together

Since my pattern has the bodice and arms together, I only have to sew the two pieces together. I sew the shoulder and top of the arms together first, and then both sides together. The lines drawn on the picture here show which parts should be sewn.

If you have a different pattern you may have to sew the shoulder pieces together, add the arms, and then sew down the side of the bodice on each side.

Make sure that when you are sewing these together you put the right side of the fabric together: This is the side you want to be shown when your model is wearing it.

Prepare the Wrist Cuffs, Waistband, and Neck Lining

No matter which one of these you start with, you will want to fold the fabric in half (end piece to end piece) with right sides together. You will sew each of the ends together on line shown in second picture.

After sewing the ends together of each piece, you will fold wrong side to wrong side. This will make it so that the side you want shown is on the outside no matter which way you flip it.

Sew the Arm Cuffs, Waistband, and Neck Lining to the Bodice and Arms

It does not matter which you decide to sew first, they will all have the same steps.

I will demonstrate using the arm cuff. You will take the folded arm cuff and put it on one of the arm holes upside down. See picture for example. You will sew all around the arm, like on the line in the picture.

Repeat this step for the arm cuffs, waistband, and neck lining.

Ready for the Model!
