Cow Hitch Square Lashing

The friction provided by the cow hitch makes this square lashing very secure. It is very difficult to untie once pulled tight

Place the vertical pole on top of the horizontal.

Fold your lashing cord in half, place it on top of the vertical pole and bring the two ends under the horizontal pole.

Pull on the cord as shown to form a bight.

Fold the bight down to make two bights.

Take the left hand cord and bring it through the bights.

Do the same with the right hand cord.

Gradually tighten. The harder you pull the more secure the hitch will become.

Bring the two ends around the vertical above . . . .

Pull tight and tie a square knot.
