Corona IPod Wall Dock From Scratches (with Home Built Speakers)
I was just playing with the idea of making an iPod dock, different from those that you see almost everywhere nowadays.
So after seeing somwehere a design for a lamp that makes light by its perimeter instead that directly, iI had the idea of making the Corona iPod Dock.
The light is provided from an unused solar garden lamp, so if you put it in your house where it receives some sunshine during the day, it will autmoatically shine in the night and will act as a nice lamp too.
It uses only materials you can have around your house, and is designed to be hanged on the wall.
The speaker are homemade, with very basic materials. The audio quality is not excellent, but the volume is good for a small room, given that you can make this dock in 10 minutes, it's not so bad, isn't it?

- Enameled copper wire
- disposable pizza dishes
- glue gun
- unused 50 cm ruler
- spare 3.5mm plug
- copper wires and solder
- the top of an "el cheapo" garden solar led lamp.

Making the Coil
Stack the magnets.
Wrap around them the enameled wire.
Make about 10 loops. Leave about 10 cm of free wire at both ends for connection.
To make the coil rigid, put some drops of glue with the glu gun, and then use the glue gun tip as a brush: you want to cover the whole coil with a very thin layer of glue to keep the loops in place.
Remove the magnets inside.
Carefully remove the paper from the inside of the coil.
You should end up with something like this:
Wrap around them the enameled wire.
Make about 10 loops. Leave about 10 cm of free wire at both ends for connection.

Making the Speakers
Glue the 2 coils to the center of 2 disposable pizza plates.
The Jack
Solder 3 wires to the 3.5 mm jack.
Glue the jack to the top of the Solar light, you can connect th iPod already in order to find the perfect position of the jack.

The Structure
Put 2 of the smaller magnets on one side at the end of the ruler.
Put the bigger one and the smaller one left on the other side.
They will stay in place without glue or anything due to the strong magnetic force.
Cut the ruler with a Xacto knife or similar, and re glue the pices in order to obtain a shape like the one you see in Figure 2.
Glue the ruler structure to the back of your solar lamp element.
Place the 2 dishes so the coil wraps around the magnets, on both sides.
Glue the dishes along the edge in order for them to stay in place.
Optional:
Cover the ruler with black cardboard for a better looking.
Put the bigger one and the smaller one left on the other side.
They will stay in place without glue or anything due to the strong magnetic force.

Here is how it will look.
Nothing excpetional, but not bad for an iPod dock made in 10 minutes, with parts you already have at home and creating the speakers themslef from scrap too.
