This is my first attempt at writing an instructable. I’m a visual learner so I would rather see the process than read about it. If you are the same way you can watch the build here:
https://youtu.be/5bXqKWgg53w

Materials needed:
2x2 lengths of treated lumber
2x6 lengths of treated lumber
4- 8’ lengths of 4x4 treated lumber
Screws, carriage bolts

Tools:
Circular saw
Level
Framing square
Tape measure
Impact driver
Various other tools

Secure the 4x4s

Our deck is approximately 13x13 square. I secured the 4x4 with carriage bolts to the existing railing system which was vey strong and stable. The cross members are 24” with 16” extending beyond the 4x4 uprights. I made a dado in the 4x4 but I’m not sure it was necessary, strong carriage bolts may work. I tend to over build things.

Add the 2x2s

The 2x6” is attached to the 4x4 right above the 16” cross member. The other one is attached with an 8” lag screw set back 1.5” from the front of the 16” cross member.

I cut one end of the 2x2s on a 45 degree angle. Once I marked the other side to length I cut it on a 45 degree angle as well. I used an other 2x2 as a spacer. The longest 2x2 is approximately 12’ long.

Finish the Ends

Once the longest 2x2 is secured, add the shorter members to the ends of the 2x6s

Add Furniture

I pre-stained most of the wood so all I had to do was add furniture.

Once again, this was my first attempt at writing an instructable so be kind and thanks for viewing.
