Corner Cabinet

I enjoy the simple Saturday mornings going with my wife to the thrift store in our area. Open 9 to noon, we have to get up and start the day. A few months back I had an idea… a corner cabinet out of a closet door… seems simple… and I should be able to clean, cut, glue and paint it all in one Sunday morning.

Since the back will be against the wall and the 6 panel detail will limit where shelves can be placed I drew out this simple idea/concept.

Hinges (I reused the ones on the closet door)

I used a closet door and so I was able to use the same hinges. Just reversed them so the details of the door our facing out when I fold the door.

Glues and screw in the brackets that will support the shelves.

Make the quarter round shelves. I used my jig saw and cut them out. 3 of them, out of MDF particle board.

Glue and mount the shelves. I added screws from the backside to also go into the MDF shelf.

I soaked the wooden round over detail so that I could shape and hold the wood with clamps. Nailed in the detail to the front of each shelf.

I filled in any crack, dent, seam with caulk to make the shelf look complete prior to painting. I also added the 1 by 1 square wood to fill the corner.

I wanted to add a bit of silver detail after painting the entire shelf white, so the painters tape was used to keep the silver from getting on the white door.

Once placed into the corner it looked like it was a built in and was a nice addition to our kitchen area.
