Supplies

First you'll need this supplies for this project like a...

  • Sharpie
  • Black paint
  • Pen
  • Wire
  • Mod podge glue
  • Paint brush
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • A piece of cardboard (I used from a cereal box)

Button Outline

With a circular object that is relatively the size of your eyes (I used the paints cap), you're going to use it as an outline for buttons using the sharpie on the cardboard, make sure to make two outlines.

Marking the Holes

IMG_3647.jpeg

With your sharpie you're going to mark the little holes of the buttons, it will be used for your eyeholes. Make sure it's as centered as you want, you can use a ruler to more precisely mark them. Don't worry of the size of the holes and if you make an error.

Making the Holes

IMG_3648.jpeg

With the pen you will pierce the marks that you just did to make holes, make sure to space it out and make it big enough where you can see through them clearly. When you're done piercing the holes make sure to Pierce the other side of the cardboard to make it as clean as it can be. Be careful to not break the cardboard and the surrounding area of the holes. When you're finished doing the holes try removing any cardboard obstructing the holes, be very careful!

Cutting the Buttons

IMG_3651.jpeg

Now you are going to use your scissors and cut the outline of the buttons, try to make them as round as possible.

Painting

IMG_3653.jpeg

Now you are going to paint the buttons with that iconic black color! Or you want to be different and color them the color of your choice. Make sure you can't see the cardboard, and don't forget the sides! Wait at least 5 to 10 minutes for it to finish drying on one side, and continue painting on the other side.

Re-hole

IMG_3654.jpeg

After your buttons have finished drying use your pen again and pierce the holes that you already did since the painting may have covered or obstruct the view.

Mod Pudge

IMG_3658.jpeg

Now with your paint brush you're going to brush your buttons with the mod pudge to give it a more shiny texture and deep black color. Give it a slight brush, don't brush too much mod pudge into the button, brush it in one direction. At first is will look all white and like glue, but after 5 to 10 minutes it's going to dry and give it an authentic button look.

Re-hole Again

Once again with the pen you will poke the holes until satisfied, and you're able to see clearly through the hole.

Wire Birdge Forming

IMG_3661.jpeg

Now we're going to make the wire for the nose bridge of the glasses. Cut between 3 or 5 cm of wire, then you're going to put it in the area of your nose where regular glasses would be landing on. With the wire on your nose try forming the wire into your nose by pressing the wire into your nose until it holds its shape.

Glueing Bridge

IMG_3664.jpeg

Now choose between the sides of the button which one would be better to showcase and place it facing down with the other side exposed, try to place the buttons where the holes are symmetrical to each other. Then you're going to glue that piece of wire to the exposed side of the button with a hot glue gun. It might look a bit tricky however when initially putting the hot glue to the wires but when is the glue is hot you can still move it around in the desired angle.

Wire Temples

IMG_3663.jpeg

Now cut two pieces of wire at the length of your eyes and your ears, leave some extra wire we're going to use it later, I would recommend about 15 to 20 cm of wire or a bit more. These two pieces of wire are going to be the temples of the glasses, the piece of metal holding your glasses to your face.

Glueing Temples

IMG_3665.jpeg

Now with your wire temples we're going to hot glue them to the buttons, they should be glued on the opposite side of the wire bridge on a symmetrical angle. But before gluing make a little L on the end of both your wire temples, you're going to glue this end of the wire to the button. Don't forget to hot glue the ends of the wire that are exposed to not injure yourself.

Temple Forming

IMG_3668.jpeg

After hot gluing your temples, try on putting your glasses, adjust any of the wires to fit your face perfectly. But first, change the shape of your end temples that are touching your ear to a sort of C shape to surround your ear.

Finished
