Cooling of Nyrius Wireless Hdmi Transmitter

While this wireless hdmi works well, I noticed that it does heat appreciably and causes the link to go dead. Very annoying while enjoying a movie.

Two 5 volt brushless fans from Amazon were ordered for this project. This voltage is the same used to power the hdmi transmitter.

Attach Fans to Housing.

Using evostick I glued the fans to the outside of the transmitter case. I fed the fan wires into the vent slots and soldered (carefully!) the wires to the negative and positive of the mini USB socket on the circuit board. There when powered the fans will come on.

Note that I have the fans blowing air out. This is the preferred practice since blowing air in pushes dust faster into the device to be cooled and does not guarantee proper exhaust of the hot air.

To complete the look and improve the airflow suction of the fans, I applied black silicone (an unsung hero) as shown in the middle and right pics.

Plugging in and watching a 90 minutes movie was a pleasure since there was no dropping of the link. Also the transmitter no longer got hot and remained cool! Success!
