Cookie Hugs

These bicolor cookies are perfect to represent the two parts of a couple so why not making them for Valentine's Day? :)
The taste is so good, and you need just a few ingredients, I am pretty sure that you already have them in your kitchen!

Ingredients

SAM_1096b.jpg
  • 200 gr (7/8 cup) butter
  • 270 gr (2 1/2 cups) flour
  • 100 gr (7/8 cup) icing sugar
  • 20 gr (2.71 tbsp) cocoa powder
  • 1 egg white

First of all mix cold butter and 250gr (2 cups) of flour in a mixer to obtain a grainy dough.

Now add icing sugar and mix everything with a spoon.

Divide the dough in two: add the remaining flour to one of them and cocoa powder to the other one.

Mix both doughs until they become soft and smooth.
It will be a little hard to do at the beginning, but once butter gets warmer it will be much easier.

Press them a little and wrap them in plastic wrap. Put them in the fridge for at least an hour.

After an hour, flatten both doughs with a rolling pin (separately) until they are about 3mm (0.11 inches) thick.
You should flatten them to create two rectangles...as you can see I could not really do that lol. But don't worry if you can't do that either, you will cut them in the next step.

Prepare an egg white and brush it on the white rectangle. You need it to "glue" the 2 rectangles together.
So, put the black rectangle on the white one and flatten a little more.

I used plastic wrap to help myself in all these steps.

Eliminate the "bad" sides creating a real rectangle with a knife.

Don't throw those parts away! I never want to waste anything...just put them aside now, we'll use them later.

Take your bicolor rectangle and roll it, starting from one of the shortest sides.

Again, wrap your roll in plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for another hour.

Meanwhile, take the dough that you put aside before and mix it a little, not too much because we want to obtain a marbled effect. If you mix it too much you will have a brownish dough but we want to be able to distinguish the two colors.

Flatten the dough with a rolling pin and make it about 1cm (0.39 inches) thick.
I made it thinner so my cookies got almost burnt! :( For this reason remember to have the same thickness for all your cookies!

Take your favorite cookie cutters and cut as many cookies as you can.

After an hour, take your roll out of the fridge and cut about 1cm (0.39 inches) thick slices with a knife. There will be your cookies.

Cover a baking tin with bakery paper and put all your cookies on it, including the marbled ones.

Bake at 180C (350F) for about 15-18 minutes.

Let them cool and...enjoy them!!!
