Cut Out a Cardboard Bottom

01 - Cut cardboard bottom.jpg

Open the book you chose for this project, and measure its sides, then remove 1 cm (or 1/4 inch) from each side and cut out a cardboard rectangular bottom of those dimensions.

I.e : if the book dimensions are 20 x 16, the your cardboard rectangle will be 19 x 15.

This will make the book stay open, and give the stand the impression that it is floating or hovering on the desk.

Glue the Bottom to the Book

Measure the middle of the cardboard rectangle, and start gluing the book onto it from there outwards!

Remember that our bottom is smaller than the book, so starting from the center is necessary!

Fold the Pages

Check out how long your business cards you want to put in the stand are, and choose how much of a page you want to fold.. you don't want to choose very long pages, because the cards would sink into them and won't be very visible.

I chose a small book for this project, with not so wide pages, so that when folded, as you will see later, the cards will be half visible.

Cover Up the Inside of the Book Cover If Necessary

This step is optional and depends on the book you chose.

Mine had some irrelevant drawings on its first and last page, so they had to be hidden.

For that I simply cut out and glued white pages on them and it was solved.

The Result
