Converting EPub Formatted Books to Use on the Kindle

The new collection of Instructables Ebooks will not work natively on the Amazon Kindle. This can be fixed with a simple conversion to a supported format.

The conversion is accomplished through the use of the free and open source  Calibre ebook Management software.

Simply follow the download link and install.

And it's up and running. Go to add "Add Books" and navigate to where you've downloaded the Instructable (or other) ebook.

Select the book and click "Convert Books", a window will pop up with lots of conversion options, just make sure it says that the output format is "MOBI", click okay and grab a cup of coffee, this is a big book and takes several minutes to convert.


Once the conversion starts you can click on "jobs" in the lower right corner for details.

Use the USB cable to connect your kindle to your computer. This will add a "Device" and "Send to Device" Icon to the Calibre toolbar.

Select  "Format>MOBI" along the left hand side of Calibre and then select the converted book.  Click "Send to Device and enjoy your Instructables ebook on your Kindle.
