As an area governor for Toastmasters, my husband was in charge of a speech contest a couple months ago which involved gathering judges, finding contestants, miscellaneous Toastmastery stuff, and ensuring there was food and beverage since the doors opened at 5:30 PM.  I only helped with the food stuff, and when events like this arise, I like to try something new.

I made cone pops!

Not sure if they're called cone pops, but they're cake pops in an ice cream cone.

Very small ice cream cones...

I made up a standard batch of cake pop base and marshmallow fondant.  Assembly was a little tricky with shaping the fondant especially since this was the first time I'd ever worked with it.  It wasn't as bad as I'd been told, and it tasted fine to me - it was just sweet dough.  I think I made roughly 30 of them and had some fondant leftover.

They went over well with the crowd although people were very confused.  My husband reported that he saw a bunch of adult professionals turn into 5 year old kids after seeing them.  Honestly, who wouldn't smile at such a cute little thing?  Some people thought they were so cute that they didn't eat one and instead took it back to show their kids.  So yay!  The hard work paid off.

Ingredients:
  • Cake Pop Base
  • Marshmallow Fondant
  • Extra Powder Sugar
  • Mini Ice Cream Cones

Tools:
  • Butter Knife
  • Small Ice Cream Disher
  • Rolling Pin
  • Biscuit Cutter

Method:
  1. Fill ice cream cone with cake pop base using a butter knife.
  2. Create a mound of cake pop base on the top of the cone using a small ice cream disher.
  3. Roll the fondant into a thin layer.
  4. Cut out a circle with a biscuit cutter.
  5. Shape the circle into a mound form using your fingers.
  6. Lay the formed fondant onto the top of the cake pop mound and continue shaping.
