I decided to make a concrete phone case that will look like a headstone for Halloween. I used quick cement, steel net and fiberglass. I hope you like it, it is easy to make. :)

The Mold

Because I didn't wanted to use hinges I used a book type phone case.

I made the mold using 0.5mm thick plexiglass.

Cut a piece as thick as your book type phone case. Use the hot glue gun to attach it to a piece of plexiglass. The glue must be on the inside on this one.

Then cut the excess as close to the edge as possible. If you want you can glue some pieces on the inside for reinforcement.

Use a piece of window isolation film or any other material as a spacer (make sure that you can remove it later).

Cut a piece of plexiglass 5mm thicker than your book type phone case.

Use the hot glue gun to attach it to a piece of plexiglass. The glue must be on the outside.

For the front piece cut a 5mm thick piece of plexiglass and glue it on a piece of plexiglass using the larger piece you made before as mold. The glue must be on the outside.

Cement Reinforcement

Use the first plexiglass mold to draw the shape on a steel net. Cut the steel net leaving an edge as thick as the larger plexiglass piece. Bend the edges 90 degrees The net mus fit inside the mold, as you can see in the pictures.

Cut another piece of steel net for the front part. This one does not need edges

Cut some fiberglass as small as possible and mix it with the cement.

Prepare and mix the cement with the sand and water. Use the proper ratio, recomended by the producer.

I used 1part cement, 1 part sand and 1 part water.

Pour the cement and try to remove as many bubbles as possible. Put the steel net and cover it with a layer of cement. Make the same with the front part.

Final Step

After 24 hours remove the mold. Be careful not to brake the phone case, the cement is not cured.

Use sandpaper to remove any imperfections.

Use a dremel tool with a diamond bit to draw what you want on the phone case.

Use double sided tape to attach the book type phone case to the concrete one.

That is it!

Happy Halloween!!
