Commemorative Picture Frame

IMG_2268.JPG

My grandmother passed quite recently and I wanted to create a picture frame to commemorate her. Through this guide, you can create an elegant picture frame to remember the people that you love as well.

Supplies

  • 3D Printer
  • 3D Filament
  • Spray paint
  • Photos of a loved one

Design Overview

IMG_2240.JPG
  • Part 1: The Front of the Frame
  • This consists of a rectangular frame with interlocking circles around the edges as well as pegs on the top designed to attach to the back of the frame
  • Part 2: The Back of the Frame
  • This consists of a rectangular piece with pegs on the side designed to interlock with the front of the frame as well as an extruded hole so that the photo stand can be attached to the back
  • Part 3: The Frame Stand
  • This piece will connect to the back of the frame to prop the frame up at an angle

Step 1a

Create the Front of the Frame

  • To begin, I drew a sketch of my design in Fusion 360.
  • The base consists of a rectangular frame (3’’ x 4.25’’)
  • Then, I used the circular pattern tool to place circles all around the border
  • After that, I extruded the design
  • First, I extruded most of base by 0.2’’
  • Then, I extruded the part of the circle inside of the rectangle by 0.05’’
  • This will keep the photo in place in front so that it does not fall out of the frame
  • After that, I created a sketch with 0.1’’ x 0.1’” pegs on top of the extruded frame and extruded the pegs by 0.1"
  • These will connect with the back of the frame

Step 1b

Create the Back of the Frame

  • First, I created a rectangular base (3.2’’ x 4.45’’) that was the same size as the rectangular frame of the first piece. Then I extruded it by 0.1”.
  • After that, I cut the pegs away from the piece.
  • I offset the original peg size from the top piece by 0.05” so that they would be able to properly interlock
  • Then, I extruded a rectangular hole from the back by .075” (not enough to go all the way the way through the piece) so that the photo stand could be attached

Step 1c

Create the Frame Stand

  • First, I sketched out a piece at a 70 degree angle with the height to reach the hole on the back of the frame as well as a notch to fit into the hole
  • Then, I extruded the piece so that it would be wide enough to fit in the hole

Print the Pieces Using a 3D Printer

Next, I printed out the 3 pieces

Assemble the Pieces Together

After, that, I assembled the pieces together

  • The front of the frame and the back of the frame were connected through the pegs and the frame stand was attached to the notch in the back of the frame

Spray Paint the Piece and Place the Photo

Then, I spray painted the piece

Finally, I placed the photo of my grandmother and I inside of the frame.

Hopefully, this guide can help you create a beautiful picture frame to commemorate someone that you love as well.
