I have tried to make a "commander" costume based off of Lexa from the100.

Supplies

Embroidery needles

Black thread

Hot Glue Gun

Scissors

Zipper

Fabric glue

Ruler

Black Fabric

Red Fabric

Fancy red fabric

Belt

Measure Black Fabric

Costco-1324444-Eclipse-Absolute-Zero-2Pack-Curtains.jpg

First step is to start measuring the black fabric on the waist part, the top of the fabric should lay above the hip bone and under the ribcage. It should be long enough to wrap around the waist and be an inch or two above the ground. The fabric should overlap around the waist at least an inch for the next step.

  • i used regular black curtains, image is not mine.

Cut + Glue Black Fabric

Once the black fabric is cut to fit around the waist and has the excess inch fabric, take the excess and hot glue the trim to each side, basically folding the fabric back half of an inch and hot-gluing it to its own side.

Black Arm Pieces

Take extra black fabric and measure the arm pieces, these should fall over the shoulders and be long enough to touch the front and back hip bone and connect on the side of the body, they should also cover above the elbow.

  • the arm pieces are the two side pieces above the red belt.

Chest Piece

Take a 6 inch piece of fabric that will cover the chest area under the collarbones.

Red Fabric

The red fabric, not the fancy one, is used for the waist piece. Measure the red fabric to fit below the breastbone (halfway up the ribcage) and half an inch under your hips. Make sure the fabric wraps around the body once. Take a safety pin or two and pin the ends of where the fabric touches.

Cut + Glue Red Fabric

Cut the measured pieces of the fabric, make sure it fits around the wasit. Hot glue the edges together so it creates a finished edge.

Fancy Red "cape"

Take a long yard of fabric (I used a red curtain and cut it in half), ruffle the top part of the fabric overlapping it. Hot-glue each fold an inch deep or use a pin and pin it together.

Zippers

The two zippers should be placed on the red waist piece and the black skirt. Cut the end of the zipper in half, place one piece on each end of the red fabric and hot glue it on. After it cools you should be able to zip the fabric up onto the body.

Black Skirt Zipper: each side of the zipper should be placed on the end pieces of the black fabric, hot glue the zipper ends to the fabric. You should be able to zip the skirt up onto the body.

Put Everything Together

Start with the skirt, zip it up onto the body. Next take the red waist piece and zip it around the body, Place the black chest piece above the red piece and hot glue a side under the red waist piece. Find the two black arm pieces and tuck each part of one side under the red waist piece, pin the back side together, or hot glue them together. Pin the red ruffled cape onto the right shoulder.
