Comfy Hat, LED Lit, Made on a Loom

MainImage.jpg

When I first noticed this contest I was super excited because I love all
things warm and snuggly. Today I am going to show you how to make a light up hat with blue fairy lights. It was super fun to knit and only took two hours and $4.00 to make. I made the hat as a fun thing to put on Etsy. I first thought about making the hat when I saw some fairy lights and a different hat that I had recently made. So I was like why wouldn't I put fairy lights in a hat.

SUPPLIES

Bernat yarn (color creme) (I found mine at Wal-Mart for $4)

36 peg knitting loom

Scissors

Wide eye needle

Fairy lights (at Wal-Mart or Amazon) (I already had these left over from another project)

PUTTING THE YARN ON THE LOOM

The first thing we are going to do is tie a simple slip knot. Make a loop like the one above. Then with the right hand hold the end of the yarn, and with the left hand reach through the loop and pull. Then go over to the loom and tighten the hoop by pulling both the end of the yarn and the other side tight.

BEGINNING TO KNIT

Start to wrap the yarn around the peg as shown above. (hint. Try to keep all the stitches at the same tension) Once finished going all the way around push the loops to the bottom. Then wrap the yarn around the top of the pegs again.

TAKING OFF THE BOTTOM ROW

Take the bottom loop and bring it up and off the peg over the top loop. Then push down the top row and rap the string around the pegs again. Keep repeating these steps.

Later on you're hat should begin to look like the picture above. To take the hat off the loom you will basically put the yarn through the loops. Cut the yarn leaving around fifteen inches. Take some thread and put it through the eye of the needle. Then tie the two ends of the thread to the yarn. Send the needle through the first loop and then pull the loop up and off the peg. Repeat putting the needle through the loops and puling them off all the way around the loom. Then pull the string so that it tightens and closes off the top of the hat. Tie off the loose yarn and cut off the excess. (Hint. Use a hook to pull the tail of the yarn to the inside of the hat for a finished appearance)

Now that you have one big warm soft hat. Grab you’re fairy lights and lets light it up. Once you got you’re fairy lights make a circle around the hat. (hint. make the circle of fairy lights slightly bigger than the hat so that when you put it on it wont be squeezing you’re head). Then fold up the bottom over the fairy light to make the brim. Now you have finished an awesome light up super soft and cozy hat

I hope you have a great time making you’re hat.
