Colorful Marble Cake (not Only for Kids)
The last day of pre kindergarden needs to be celebrated. And what is better than muffins at a goodbye celebration? Cake with a colorful surprise inside.
I always wanted to make a cake like this, but always the time was to short (or I was to lazy) but this time I wanted to create a yummy funny cake. And it worked out fine.
Tools and Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 320gr (~11.3oz) wheat flour
- 20gr (~0.7oz) corn starch
- 200gr (~7oz) sugar
- 1 Packet (8gr) (~0,3oz) vanilla sugar
- 1 Packet (8gr) (~0,3oz) Baking powder
- 300gr (~10.6oz) Soy Rice Drink
- 160gr (~5.6oz) Plant Oil neutral
- 10gr (~0.35 oz) lemon juice
- 20gr (~0.7oz) baking cacao powder
- food coloring
Tools:
- Mixing bowl
- Handheld mixer
- spatula
- more small bowls
- cookie cutter of your choice
- cake pan
- baking pan

- parchment paper
Mix Your Batter
Unfortunately I can't find my pictures of the following steps anymore, but I am sure you can follow my written instructions. Because it is really just mixing together. Like every regular cake batter :-)
- Mix first all dry ingredients together and stir well.
- Then mix the soy drink, the oil, and the lemon juice until everything is evenly combined. But avoid overmixing the batter otherwise it might not rise as you like it.
- Divide the batter into 6 bowls.
- Add red food coloring to the first bowl, and stir until combined.
- Add violet food coloring to the second bowl, and stir until combined.
- Add green food coloring to the third bowl, and stir until combined.
- Add blue food coloring to the fourth bowl, and stir until combined.
- Add the baking cacao to the fifth bowl, and stir until combined.
- Keep the rest of the white batter in the big bowl.
Creating the Colorful Kids
- Cover your baking pan with parchment paper.
- Spread your violet, green, blue and read batter onto the paper, in my case the layer was around 2,5cm (1")
- Since I didn't want to receive a cake "crust" I covered the batter with some parchment paper from the top.
- Bake for approx. 15min at 180°C (~356°F)
- Let it cool for some time and then start cutting cake "cookies".
I first thought it might be a good idea to use a wooden stick as a cutting alignment, but it wasn't. So I just cut and cut and cut, until all color cake was transformed into small little cake kids and rest.
Layer and Bake Your Cake
Spread your brown batter on the bottom of the cake pan.
Place the cake kids in two rows next to each other and very close to those in front of them.
Use a spoon to distribute the white batter around the cake inlays gently.
Try to avoid moving them too much, you don't want to get chaos or even worse, you don't want to get holes.
Cover until all kids are covered.
Bake for approx. 75min at 180°C (~356°F)
Let it cool down completely and cut it into slices.
Enjoy the Slices
Cut the cake and enjoy the vibrant colors in your "ordinary" marble cake.
Whats even better is, that if you change the colors between the cake cuts more often you could receive a slice of cake with two different sides.
Muffin Kind of Fail - But Still Yummy
With some of the rest batter, I tried to create funny cupcakes.
But it didn't work very well, since you don't slice them, so you don't see the colorful center.
But I think the children still liked them :-)
Next Day New Cake With Colorful Leftovers
The next day I watched the leftover colorful rest cake and actually wanted to eat it with my kids in the afternoon. But since I'm more the chocolate type, the white (even if colorful) part of a marble cake is not so exciting for me.
So I just mixed half a recipe of the mentioned above and mixed everything with cacao.
Then I spread a part of the batter into the baking pan, set in the leftover cake kids, sprinkled some of the smaller parts around them, and covered the kids with the rest batter.
Bake at 180°C (~356°F) for approx. 60min and enjoy a second time :-)
