Hello, it's Quinzy again.

In this instructable, I'm going to show you how to make a monogram from paper quilling. I decided to make a letter G for graduation. Let's make it!

Supplies

In this project you are going to need:

  • paper strips in various colors. I used about 7 colors, and 0.5 cm in width. I used 120 gsm white paper and other colors are 80
  • scissors
  • tweezers
  • PVAc glue
  • A4 white paper as a base
  • glue applicator. I used a straw, but you can also use a toothpick
  • shadowbox frame/3D frame (optional)

Sketch the Letter

First thing first, I sketched the monogram using a pencil, but you can print the outline of the letter in faint grey color so that it won't appear to much. Or you can print it normally then trace the letter on a new paper using a pencil.

Then draw some ornaments like ribbons, coils, water drops, etc. to add festive vibes to the monogram.

Outlining

For the outlining, use the 120 gsm white paper strip. The thickness of the paper will take the strain of the elements being filled inside the letter. To curve the paper, you can gently run your finger along it, much like you would do with scissors and ribbon to get that to curl. Apply a little amount of PVAc glue on the outline of the letter using a toothpick. Place your strips carefully, and hold still until the glue is firm enough for the strip to stand up on its own.

Festive Part

For this part, I didn't use an outline (white paper strips) so I pick the color of the paper strips randomly to make the ribbon, water drops, swirls, and coils. For the ribbons, glue down the paper strips by following the sketch line. As for the swirls, curl the end of the strip using the tip of your finger. For the coils, roll the paper strips tightly, and secure the tip with a little amount of glue. And for the water drops, you can see the picture.

Filling

After the outlining and festive part is done, it's time to fill inside the outline. I used soft colored strips, so that the festive part would dominate the letter. This step is quite simple, cut the paper strip, and bend it to make it curved. Then glue it down and make a random pattern of curved strips.

When the paper quilling monogram is done, put it in a 3D frame. Well done! :D
