Collapsable Ceiling Table (concept Design/make)

I have designed and created a concept model of a collapsable ceiling table
Supplies

To create this I have used the following materials/items:
- Sand paper
- Carving knife
- Pine wood plank
- Foam board (any color)
- Metal ruler
- Steel Hammer
- Chisel/Skrewdriver
- Lights/bulbs (3)
- Wires
- 9v battery
- Syringes (2)
- Bendible tube
- Pencil
- Glue gun
- Hand saw
- Oil finish (not specifically needed)
- drawed design
Additional softwares have been used such as:
- CAD- Onshape
- Hand design- classic paper and pencil
Inspiration
I have noticed that one of the biggest problems with furniture is to have the ability to find enough space for guests and family to walk around freely in crowded areas weather it being parties, game nights, gatherings etc. This can also be a big problem when in the kitchen, cooking those huge meals and having no place to store them or even bumping into things.Did you know that roughly 25% of home injuries are caused by furniture- thats 2.025 billion people in pain, ouch! But roughly 14% (thats more than 50%) of that is caused by tables, and I'm here to stop that. Hopefully
Designing
To create all things you would definitly need a finalised design, and so I've hand drawn some asthetically pleasing designs of tables. one of my key points on my check list is for this design to be origional and classical- so nothing too modern or technologicaly advanced but simple, classic and eye-catching like rectangles and circles. I have chosen 2 design groups/movements, such as: Japanese Zen & Wabi-Sabi- which focuses on emphasising natural materials like wood or stone paired with hand crafted designs, or like Mid-Centuary modern which features clean lines with organic forms.
I was designing some tables until, I realised that table legs are realy the ones who damage you ( imagine running into a pointy sticks edge- that would hurt) and so I've thought that, why don't I just completely remove them, which is exactly what I did. This small change had greatly impacted the layout of the finalised table- I will have to think of a completely new way of suspending a table at a height rather than have a floor table, while it may look good floor tables are quite low and can easily be tripped over if unaware of its presence.
Designing (2nd)
After creating the 4 table designs, I had settled on 2 that are the most astheticaly pleasing (personaly), once I had chosen these designs, I had taken time to develop them- incorparating details and additional presentation like table cloths/covers. Once I had finaly completed these improvements, I had settled on an expanding rotating table and a rectangular classical table.
CAD Modelling
To show my understanding of the rotating cirular table, I have created a CAD model on Onshape which showcases the parts needed, and if 3d- printing, you can have a look at the file to work off of. It contains the following:
- Ball joint
- Outer ring
- Inner ring
- Sliders (4)
- Curved sliders (4)
- skrews (8)
Note- I did not have the time and capabilities to put the pieces together as the CAD wasn't working well and was quite confusing, but on the other hand I did manage to draw the design layout.
Wood Working

By far the most frustrating part of this, was the table wood working (sadly the pine wood had snapped- I had to restart 3 times). Now the design that I had drew to engrave was nice and it was working, but at certain points it would snap and so because I did not want to restart, I took advantage of the situation and completley took out/ripped the engravings with a Hammer, and a screwdriver substituted as a chisel. I had ened up with a simple yet amazing engraving of a wide rectangular line.
Once completed I took some time to sand down the engraving, corners/edges and top surface to make everything look as clean and nice as possible. After I finished with a coating of olive oil to bring out an amazing shiny surface.
Hanging Mechanism

I had taken some time and effort of thinking into this, and I went from thinking about chains and ropes that are conected to rotating wheels to hang the table and suspend it in air. But then I found one the best ways that I can do this, and that is hydrolics which uses water pressure to force fully and smoothly move pistons up/down/left/right.
Electronics

The way that this can become a good table, is by adding things- and I had chosen lights/bulbs because while adding drawers and compartments may be nice, I realy wanted to think of something that can be used to save space and be able to be efficient.
I first started by drilling a hole in the centre of the table- this will be important as it will allow me to fit the wires through the table rather than being messy.
I then fit the wires through the hole and then glue the bulbs to the bottam.
Setup

I then finally made a foam box to fit the idea of a small room, I add the hydraulics by gluing them to the table and creating a small hole in the foam. I finished by glueing a 9v battery to the side
