Cold Drink Bottles Being Eco-friendly!

Plastic waste is one of the biggest environmental challenges we face today, but with a touch of creativity, even waste can find a new purpose. This project turns an everyday plastic bottle into a charming planter that not only breathes life into your home or garden but also helps reduce waste. By repurposing a bottle, planting seeds, and nurturing them into beautiful plants, you’re contributing to a greener planet in a simple yet impactful way.
Supplies

- Plastic bottles (I had 200ml and 500ml ones)
- A sharp cutter
- A poking tool like a needle
- Potting soil or garden soil
- Seeds of your choice (herbs, flowers, or vegetables)
- Water or spray bottle
Prepare the Bottle

Rinse the bottle thoroughly to ensure no residue remains. Use a cutter to cut off the top section of the bottle, first heat its tip using a lighter and poke it inside the bottle about 1 inch below the neck then it will be easily cut using the sharpness of the cutter. I heated it especially because using the cutter to cut bottle is dangerous, it can slip and cause injuries. The top part I didn't use in this project is used here: https://www.instructables.com/Keep-Water-for-the-Birds-in-Summers/
Add Drainage Holes

Now that an open container is obtained we will add some drainage holes for proper water drainage and to prevent root rot in the plant.
Fill Up the Soil

Adding a thin layer of small stones at the bottom to improve drainage then fill the bottle with potting soil, leaving about 2cm of space at the top to prevent water from overflowing when watering.
Plant the Seeds or Cuttings

I sowed radish and carrot seeds directly into the soil, two seeds per bottle and removed one after it germinated leaving the best one behind. Do research which plants to plant according to your area and climate. Gently water the soil until it is moist but not soggy.
Over time, your seeds will germinate and grow into healthy plants. Keep an eye on the progress and enjoy the satisfaction of nurturing your mini garden!
