Coffee Wall Art

Thumb.jpg

The world runs on coffee, right? We think so and so do millions of other people. We thought we would show our love for coffee by creating a simple piece of coffee wall art.

This is an incredibly easy project to make, especially if you have a scroll saw or a CNC. You can get the pattern for this project on our website - FREE Coffee Wall Art Pattern

If you want to make it, here are the materials you'll need:

  • 1/8" MDF or Hardboard (could really be made out of anything, we chose thin materials)
  • Paint (acrylic is what we used)
  • Double-sided poster hanging tape (the kind that is removable)
  • Pattern
  • Spray adhesive or glue stick
  • Painter's Tape or masing tape

Here are the tools and other supplies we used:

  • Scroll Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Paintbrushes

COFFEE Wall Art

If you are the video watching type, here is a short video showing how we did it. If you'd rather read and look at some pretty pictures, there are details and images in the following steps.

Applying the Patterns

If you've downloaded the patterns we provided you will notice that there are two patterns. One for the coffee cup and splashing coffee and one for the coffee pot itself. We only posted images of applying the cup, because both processes are exactly the same.

We put down a layer of painter's tape onto a panel of 1/8" MDF or hardboard, whichever you prefer to call it. Then we spray a layer of a spray adhesive. This then allows us to add the pattern directly to the tape layer and will make removing the pattern later much easier.

Cutting Out the Pieces

Cutting out the pieces for the coffee wall art is fairly easy and pretty straight forward. We used our scroll saw to cut out all the pieces, but it could most likely be done on a band saw as well. Sometimes you need to use thin blades to make intricate cuts. That's not the case with this project. Using a thicker blade with more widely spaced teeth worked out great for this. It made it go a little faster too.

Cleaning Up the Pieces Before Painting

All of the pieces will need to be cleaned up a bit. Some of them needed shaped a little bit better and we did that on the strip sander. Also, after removing the patterns, we used some 220-grit sandpaper to remove all the fuzzies that are left behind from the MDF.

Painting

We painted all the pieces with basic colors that would be associated with a coffee pot, coffee and a coffee cup. White for the cup, deep brown for the coffee, black for the spout and silver for the bottom of the pot.

Adding the Poster Tabs and Hanging the Wall Art

The poster tabs that we used are great. We have used them for lots of other projects as well. They come off the wall nicely if you need to move stuff later on and they are extremely strong. Since the coffee wall art is thin and light, these worked out perfectly.

Positioning them on the wall is super easy and if you need a reference you can look at the images that go with this step.

All Done!

All in all, this is a really simple project and can be knocked out in just a couple hours (and most of that time is waiting on paint to dry). It looks great on the wall as well.

We hope you enjoyed this DIY project and the video that goes along with it. If you have any questions or comments please let us know, we'd be more than happy to help you out. Thanks for checking out this Instructable.
