Coffee Time! Brew Clock - 3D Printed

Thanks for showing interest in my project by clicking and viewing. Over the past few months, I have wanted to come up with a project that I could release completely to the crowd sharing community just to share an idea with the world. So here it goes...

This brew time clock was designed to show people in an office environment what time the coffee was brewed. I know, I know... Not a problem 80+% of the time. But it is at least something that other people may say... "You know, now that you mention it, this is an inconvenience sticking post it notes to the carafe or counter, or even the unthinkable, not knowing when the pot of coffee was brewed". Right? Imagine that.

It was designed in 3 different pieces making it simple to print on a desktop style 3D printer without supports. The "Base" has a flat bottom to sit securely on a counter top or coffee pot with a caption and an arrow pointing at the time the coffee was brewed. The "Side" glides on top of the base and has 1-12 numbers inset into the face to line up with the arrow on the base. And the "Handle" is glued into the "Side" to allow for quick clock adjustment.

-- Materials / Items needed for the project:

• Epoxy glue (I used Loctite Epoxy which dries clear)
• Sand paper (400 grit wet/dry)
• X-Acto knife
• Nail polish or hobby paint (Add the contrasting color to make the letters, numbers, and arrows stand out)
• 3D Printer with slicing software or an account to a 3D printing community. Such as www.3dhubs.com (https://www.3dhubs.com/Huntsville/hubs/sons-liberty)
• Printing filament (I used Faberdashery's PLA filament: Glacier Blue and Arctic White)

• Original 3D model and assembly files for others to view and modify
• STL Files to use in other slicing software
• GCODE files produced using Simplify3d made to print on Ultimaker 2 3D printer
• GIFs to show the 3D printing process to print these items
• Photos to show the post printing process

Print the items or submit the order to a 3d printing hub owner (Example: https://www.3dhubs.com/Huntsville/hubs/sons-liberty. For ease, I have included the gcode printing file I used on my Ultimaker 2 printer using Simplify3D software

Apply the contrasting color to the recessed lettering, numbers and letters. I used black nail polish with a very thin applicator; this should make cleaning in the next step easier.

Once the contrasting color is completely dry, use an X-Acto knife or other scraping instrument to clean any excess color from the top surface.

Sand any scratch marks from the finished surface to make smooth. I used 400 grit sand paper to wet sand the surfaces, which worked quite well.

Apply the epoxy glue to the entire rim of the Side part as seen in the photo. Then, install the Handle part into the Side part with the epoxy applied.

You are now complete!!

Now, just brew a pot of coffee and set the timer showing the brew time for everyone in the office.
