Coffee Filter Hack With Sock - Simple
Hi there!
This is a very simple trick that I customized for making coffee - using a women's sock! Don't be weirded out - it turns out delicious :)
I used a super thin sock, like the ones used in shoe stores. They are sheer and not even ankle-height.
There are several tutorials around on making coffee using a sock, I just tweaked them for fitting my tastes and what I already have at hand :)
I tried to use simple stuff that can easily be found at home. You will probably not even need to buy anything extra. The socks can be easily and cheaply found at any supermarket.
The bonus is: Delicious coffee that does not create any waste!
Tweak this hack as you wish.
So let's start :)
Please feel free to leave any feedback - as usual, I always love talking here!
PS: The coffee, of course, does not smell of sock :) If you have any doubts, you can wash (unused) socks with water, dry and wash again several times before use.
PS2: Edited to blur coffee brand - think it seemed like I was advertising.
List of Things You Need:
-Coffee pot, hot water (80-90ºC)
-Your favourite coffee grounds
-Just one women's sock (the ones used for trying shoes - unused obviously :)
-Tea strainer
-Coffee spoon
-Coffee Mug
Rubber bird is optional ;)
I showed both an unused and used women's sock, just to show what it will become after use. You only need one.
I bought my coffee grounds from a local shop, delicious! Make sure you grind them or have them ground for paper filter size.
Place the Strainer on Mug
You can customize this step according your type of strainer - this is a common type around here :)
Make sure you already have hot water handy in your pot.
Place the Sock on Top of Strainer
Place the sock on top of the strainer so that it looks like a nest - make sure the bottom sits nicely on the strainer - you don't want coffee spilling around with the grounds when you pour water :)
Add the Coffee Grounds
Next, add the desired amount of coffee. Be careful not to come too close towards the edges. You can pat the edges of the nest lightly to tweak the placing a little bit with your hand.
Slowly Pour the Hot Water
This part needs a little bit of care - Slowly pour the hot water. You could hold the sock with one hand, adjusting as the shape changes a bit - careful with the water of course :)
Make sure you take some breaks while pouring the water - let it drain a bit - then continue to avoid spillover.
Enjoy Your Coffee!
Your delicious coffee is ready to enjoy!
Get your favourite book and cozy up on the sofa, sipping away.
No electricity, paper, mocca pot or fancy equipment necessary :) The coffee aroma has transferred to the water nicely.
Hope you liked my Instructable. Please feel free to share your ideas, your experience if you tried it, ask any questions, or just say hi!
