I crafted a swing for my budgerigars to play on and enjoy their time, using coconut shell, cotton twine, and wooden beads.

Supplies

These are the materials I used.

  • A coconut shell split in half and cleaned interior
  • A knife
  • Macrame cotton cord with 3-strand twisted
  • Olive oil
  • 40 grit sandpaper
  • 6 wooden beats
  • Rotary tool
  • Drill

Cleaning the Tassels

First, clean the tassels from the outside of the shell with a knife, before sanding.

Cutting Off Protrusions

Cutting off excess protrusions around the shell with a Dremel cutting disc.

Sanding the Shells

Sand the inside and outside of the shell with 40-grit sandpaper.

Drilling the Holes

Drill 3 holes at equal angles into the shell with a drill

Smoothing the Edges

Using the Dremel sanding tool, smooth out the areas around the edges that may hurt the birds.

Polishing With Oil

Rub the olive oil thoroughly into the inside and outside of the shells.

Threading Strings Into Holes

Cut 3 ropes of the same length. Since we will use the ropes in two layers, cut them a little longer, for example, 40 cm. After threading, place 3 wooden beads.

Placing the Beads

Tie a knot in the middle of the ropes. Then place another bead on each of the three. Then complete the three ropes at the top by knotting them together. Now it is ready for the use of birds. Give them some time to get used to it, they might feel strange at first.
