Clothing Rack

This clothing rack was my weekend project and it took me about 6 hours to finish it (I took alot of break because I am a bit lazy and it was a very hot day) but if you are very good in wood working, you can finish off this project in 3 to 4 hours only.

1) 1"x3"x13" (t x w x l) wood
2) A 2m steel rod (18mm diameter)
3) L connector bracket (8 pcs)
4) Screw
5) Wall plug
6) Handtool (electric drill, hammer, crew driver etc)
7) Wood varnish (I chose mahogany color)

I am lucky enough to have my drill set equipped with 20mm spade bit. I measured 12" from one side and the hole to be drilled must be in the center. From now onwards, these 4 pcs of wood will be called 'handles'

I used finishing sander with 180 grit sand paper to smooth off 'handles' surfaces. A smooth surface will make wood grain looks better after wood varnish application. You should work from 180 grit to finer grit for the best result.
Once you finished, clean the surface with a rag and start applying varnish on all surfaces. Leave the painted surfaces to dry (for about 2 hours).

Next process is to attach L connector bracket on the side of the 'handles' which will be screwed to the wall. I decide to attach them on both side so that it will hold the clothes steadily.

I decided that the height of the rack to be about 52" from the ground. Then I started marking the holes that I need to drill. I separated all 4 of them by the same distance so that the load distribution is even. I used wall plug for the screw so the 'handles' will hold tighter. Final process is to insert the steel rod thru the 'handles' slot and voila....My clothing rack is completed.
