Clothes Hanger for Dorm

For my first year in college, it was quite a realization that dorms are a lot smaller than I expected. And when you have as many clothes as me, it's hard to fit everything in drawers and on a hanging rack. So, I thought I'd use Fusion 360 and 3D printing to my advantage.

Supplies

-Fusion 360

-Ruler/Measuring Device

-Tape

-3D Printer

The design of the hook fits over the top of the door. I made the inside of the hook 35.35 mm which is slightly bigger than the 35.21mm width of the door. This is so that I can add tape the to inside so the 3D print so the hook won't scratch off the paint or leave any marks on the door.

[When you make this yourself, add at least .1 mm to the overall width of your door in order to account for the tape added]

The top for the hook was also specifically designed to fit in the gap between my door and the trim on the wall. I've gone through multiple editions of the door not being able to close due to the size at the top of the hook. I made this 3.9mm in the final design which almost a whole 1.0 mm smaller than the 4.76 mm clearance.

[Similarly, when you make this yourself, subtract at least 0.5 mm to the clearance of your door. Anything smaller than a 0.5 mm clearance runs the risk of the door not closing]

I made squares off the end of the hook to divide the clothes hangers into sections. For this specific model, it can hold 4 hangers. This is visualized better in the next step as seen in the example pictures.

The design itself is simple but there's a lot that goes into a functional model. Getting your measurements right is crucial!

After printing, the hook worked perfectly. I use it everyday and is one of the most practical prints I've ever made!

I have included my model incase you have a similarly sized door, but I strongly encourage making it yourself. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot about tolerances and methods of 3D printing.

IMPROVEMENTS:

-I would try to add more spaces for hooks. 4 clothes on one hanger is not a lot.
