Clothes Drying Cabinet

Most people have a clothes drying rack somewhere. When I was young I thought other people are so tidy that they first dry their clothes, and then put the rack away in some hidden corner, only to take it out later when they have some more clothes to dry. Three children later, I learned that any drying rack would be in use 24/7, and always, always in the way. Those days are now over, because I've invented the Clothes Drying Cabinet! It's cheap to build, cheap to use, and fast!
Firstly, why wouldn't you dry all your clothes in a dryer machine? All the tumbling and heat can damage your more sensitive clothes. Plus, it's a lot more expensive to use, and much less environmentally friendly - the machine uses plenty of electricity.
Supplies
- Shelving system rails and brackets
- Large fan
- Timer for fan (optional)
- Wood (optional)
How It Works

The construction is incredibly simple:
- Take any free cabinet space you have (when we had two children we used a 60cm wide cabinet with a regular door).
- Install shelving rails and brackets.
- I've installed wooden slats on top of the brackets to extend and widen them just a bit, but this part is optional.
- Install a fan. Ours is at the top of the cabinet to prevent dripping water from getting into it.
- Install a fan timer. When we put in the clothes we start the timer.
For evening use, we installed a led strip with a motion detector. No need to put on all the ceiling lights and wake up the whole house.
Above the sink we also have one wire shelf to dry our socks and to prevent stuff from falling into the sink.
Conclusion

Depending on weather and fabric thickness, the clothes will dry in about 1 to 4 hours. It's much faster than without the fan, and they smell better too. The thicker cotton clothes dry better when placed nearer to the fan.
Normally we keep the doors open. But when we have guests, we can close the doors to hide all the laundry. There is some ventilation space between our sliding doors to exhaust the damp air.
We still use our drying machine to dry our sheets and towels, it makes them fluffier.
I fully recommend the Clothe Drying Cabinet! It's an easy to use, ecological, cheap, and pretty alternative to the drying rack or the drying machine.
