Closet Space Saver

step1.JPG

Has your closet ever seemed too small or like the best place to hide valuables? Then with this space saver, you'll be able to fix both of those!

Supplies

a closet, a tool of your choice to partially demolish a wall, the material you have for your walls (concrete, sheetrock, plaster, etc.), paint, hinges, doors, tracks (like on a rolling/sliding door), wheels (again from that type of door), coat hooks, shelving material, drawers, doorknobs, drill, screws, nails, hammer, cleaning supplies, flooring, baseboards, various glues, saw, Dremel tool, soldering tool, metal beams

Expand!

step1.JPG

Take off the closet doors. Then remove all the contents, and the shelves, and whatever else is there. When you're done, it should be a blank alcove. then, using a tool of your choice, destroy the back wall so the closet is about twice its original depth. Now clean up the area. Next, you need to add flooring to the new space, and walls and a ceiling, while you're at it. And make sure everything is cleaned off afterward.

Start Creating!

Time to hit the tracks! Take some tracks off a sliding door, or buy new ones. Then add them to the floor and ceiling where the back of the closet originally was. Create a slot in the wall for the sliding doors, and add shelf slits to that. If you want the contents of the shelves to go with them, just add space for that. Then, put the sliding doors in so they are flush with the original closet back. Now you can add shelves. if you want them to look better. just make sections of wall material attached to them that cover the holes in the walls, but only when the sliding doors are closed. If you want, cut slits at the edges of the sliding doors to make them easier to open. Now, if you've made a mess, clean it up.

Add the Hidden Area!

step 3-2.JPG

Open the doors. Inside, it looks pretty bare, right? Well after this step it'll have the fundamentals. Just add whatever you need in there. It could be a safe or a secret stash of snacks or money! This is the most boring part, I would say.

Finishing Touches!

step 3-2.JPG

Make it feel more like a part of your house! Add paint! Furniture! Let your imagination flow! You could even add, say, a secret bookshelf door for an even more hidden area!

You're Done!

Enjoy your new personalized and hidden space!
